I was searching yesterday on why the VET headgasket was better, but no luck. The car turns on and everything so I'm assuming no major damage was done.

I will be pulling the head off this w/e I don't have much time during the week. But if I decied to part it you get dibs on the bottom end.

This is probably not helping, but a parted VE motor which has suffered a blown head gasket probably wont fetch the price that you can buy an imported one from japan for.

I know im not going to get it out of a engine with a bad head gasket, but hey anything helps towards a 1,300 dollar + VE.

I have other things for sale that I will post soon.

GTI R turbo manifold & J-pipe with mint heat shields.
370 cc inj w rail
2 low port heads
1 high port head
00 RR DE (came with top feed inj so im assuming it was jdm)
I have 3 sets of b14 corner lights
ect. ect.

If there is no warpage then there is no reason you shouldnt get asking price for the head. Also, search under Gregv's name for his thread on how to install springs/retainers. There are pictures and step by step instructions on pulling the valvetrain.

So today after work I pull my head off,

But I have a couple of questions.

If my head is decked will the timing be off? or will the tensioner take car of the difference?

Should I get a N1 chain tensioner?

My VE used to burn a little oil, In my trip to Tampa last X-mas it used about a quart of oil.... I suspect bad valve seals.

I really whant to replace them all just in case, but do I have to get VE specific seals??? Or are the DE's the same thing.

Thanks guys

Get the head checked first to see how much will have to be taken off for it to be flat. If it's very little then your cam timing will not be affected.

You can use the valve seals from a rr motor.
