Actually DET's run about the same if not more timing then NA DE's. Thus when you are running an NA DE ECU with 8.5 compression without turbo, you pretty much need to increase your timing by 5* or ...

You want it close to the throttle body too, that way it's what the engine will be seeing. My JB welded ports seem to be holding up fine right now, been 3 weeks already. Boost leak tested yesterda...

Used OEM is better then an aftermarket one hands down. Never buy aftermarket vital electric parts.
