Opinions on this cooling setup for NA VE?
Hey guys- my radiator took a crap my '92 VE. Wasn't that great to begin with, OEM replacement from something like Advanced Auto, connections were off a bit and now lower rad hose connector broke, leaked coolant everywhere while I was driving, started to overheat, freaked out, pulled over to see coolant spewing out. Was 20 min from home so I just sat there for 2 hours to let it cool down, then poured in my reserve gallon of distilled water I keep with me (I highly recommend you do this during the summer as well) and drove home with my fans on the whole time, made it to the house right as the temps were getting real hot.

Now as I've removed the front bumper etc. and radiator I've discovered the passenger side OEM coolant fan (which is 4" in maximum width) had actually been coming in contact with #2 primary on my header at times. There is a mark right on the header and the part of the fan assembly is partially deformed I assume from repeatedly coming into contact with it while the header was at hot. No idea how long that his has been going on, radiator was pretty tight in there, but like I said it didn't fit perfectly.

So now that I need a new radiator AND a slimmer fan(s) I found this on eBay:

Godspeed 91 92 93 94 95 Sentra 200SX NX Radiator Fan | eBay

It's a Godspeed radiator direct fit (they also "claim" 40% more cooling efficient) and two 12" slim fans included. $189.00 shipped. Good deal? My concern is the OEM B13 cooling fans are 14". I'm debating if it will make a difference. So my question is anyone used this or a similar radiator to this before, and what are your thoughts on going from two 14" fans to two 12" fans, although if you believe the radiator is truly 40 percent more efficient perhaps it wouldn't matter. photos:

It's almost May and soon it will be in the upper 80's and 90's. This car has always run a bit warm, so I have decided to get rid of the Tsuru front end as I'm told the grille blocks airflow. I only run 100% distilled water and use 1-2 bottles of Redline water wetter over the course of the summer.

what idle temps are you seeing after warm up? 40% more efficient I would say is a long shot, probably means 40% heat capacity. dual 12s should be fine on it.

to really see if the claims of 40% are true you would have to measure the inlet and outlet temps of oem and aftermarket, then compare the delta between the 2 to determine a percentage.

did you install it already? I have one and the cap is rotated 90 degrees making the cap nipples hit the core support. replace it with a square type and its cool, otherwise you risk that cap twisting off due to vibration against the support.

godspeed jwhateverracing, made in china or Taiwan, all the same man. I've had mine for about 2 years now and no issues other than the cap. 12" dual fans in push config, they rarely come on, and when they do its only for like 5 min at a time, though there appears to be some slight differences such as the drain plug and possibly the radiator cap orientation. mine looked pretty well built.

I would of went with a Mishimoto rad before a godspeed, but curious to see how well it holds up.

Thanks for your input. No I actually didn't even order anything yet; I cant see spending $400+ on a Koyo when all it takes is one connection to break and that's it like mine did. And yeah, I am doubtful of the 40% too, but hhere's cut and pasted what it says on the eBay page:

NISSAN SENTRA 91-99 ( 200SX , NX SERIES ALSO). GODSPEED RACING ALUMINUM RADIATOR

including: 2 x 12" electric slim fan with mounting hardware (1250 cfm each)

RADIATOR SPEC:

core size- 317 X 635 X 53mm (core size)

INLET / OUTLET: 1 3/8"

- 100% light weight aluminum
- direct bolt-on
- perfect for street or strip
- 40% more cooling efficient then stock
- 3 year warranty

I looked at a few of them and the pictures seem to indicate the fixed the cap issue. my drain is a big metal threaded slug with an o-ring and they went to a plastic type as well.

if all your mounting grommits are mostly there, I don't see you having a problem with the radiator. the 12's run much higher speed than stock, and are quite loud. cfm's them move is more than sufficient. if you can construct a sheet metal shroud that would be perfect.

I looked at Mishimoto. If I just needed a new radiator I'd get one of those, but now I see I need at least 1 slimmer fan. I suppose I could get a Mishimoto and then a slim fan separately, which will cost more than the whole Godspeed setup (which also gives me 1 more fan) but I kind of like the Godspeed in theory because you know the fans are going to fit properly (and if they don't I send it back) . Either that or I'd have to get rid of the JMR header and go with a smaller one (and that isn't going to happen, lol)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MISHIMOTO-Performance-Aluminum-Radiator-91-94-Nissan-Sentra-SR20DE-FREE-COOLANT-/190727496797?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ASentra&hash=item2c683ea45d&vxp=mtr

The Mishimoto, $240.00 for the radiator alone. Sure it's better quality and I know I can get 1 single cheap slim fan for like $20 but they usually are fragile and something breaks. So that's a $70 difference and only getting 1 fan instead of 2 as with the Godspeed setup for $189.00

although, not sure of the quality of those fans either, doubt they're much better than the cheap ones (probably a little) but the main thing is I *need* a new radiator, and also my OEM 14" driver's side fan has plenty of clearance in case that is needed.

bet if you looked and mishimoto and godspeed side by side they would be pretty damn close

bet you the inlets and outlets come as 1.6 instead of the 2.0 was a common problem for a while

i ran one quality fan on the mishimoto unit on a turbo car and never ever had a problem even on the dyno. Godspeed gives you two fans but how good are they really?

i dont understand how you are having heat problems at all i use to run a stock b13 radiator on all my cars big turbo small turbo ve you name it all done on stock radiator with quality slim fans that move a shit ton of air

even the stock fans are very effecient

I honestly haven't had any overheating problems in 18 months in this car until the radiator spewed coolant the other day, lol. I also had a shitty cap and thermostat I'm going to swap out again.
