to get it in timing mode get the fully warmed up. pop the hood, unplug the tps sensor. wait a few seconds for the engine speed to stablize. then rev the engine to ~3000rpm, 3 times. voila timing mode.
You should be using higher octane than 89. then bump your timing. When I did a VE swap for a friend he had 87 octane in the tank and I had to back off all the timing just to get it to drive! and it would go faster with only a little bit of throttle, any more than that and it would fall flat on its face and try to die. Same symtoms you have except for the rain part. But we dont get rain here.
Yea, thats what it does. It feels much stronger under low throttle than it does on high. Even before it started bogging like it is now, when i give it gas it feels like its going no where.

Yea i was actually thinking about pulling it out considering i will be trying to get a calum within the next month.
Also i read somewhere that my timing is supposed to be around 22degrees with a de ecu and maf on a ve? Is this accurate? If so im about 7 degrees retarded as I am currently around 15degrees.

I think it's 20* but you better put some higher octane in or you'll be in for a suprize!
Also having the dizzy dead center is not always 15*, mine is'nt. Did you check it with a timing light yet even if you cant get it into timing mode?
Yea, every time I tried to check with the light with my failed attempts at timing mode the lights jump around and I can never get a read of it. That was before i replaced my distributor. I have yet to try now to see if that stops it but i assumed that it was jumping around because i wasnt in timing mode.

Yes, If you are running a de ecu with a ve with ve injectors, with the emanage disconnected, then run 22* base timing and 91-93 octane. My motor ran great like that, very strong and not overly rich.
