Next best choice for ecu management
I've been searching a lot on the forums and it would really be nice to get my hands on a Calum RT ecu but he's apparently really busy and a lot of members haven't received their ecu's from him for some time. I want to run my sr20de+t properly with the right ecu management system asap. So since Calum isn't as available as everyone would like, what's the next best option without going to a pricey standalone even though it would make life simpler?

I currently run a turboed 1993 g20 sr20de motor on a stock ecu with stock injectors with the wastegate open so i'm not making any boost (dunno if that's safe or not, haven't stumbled on it while reading). I want to hit 250hp for street use. From the other thread about maximizing an sr20de, several members mentioned that it was unnecessary to use a standalone to hit 400hp and a piggyback system would be more than sufficient. So since then, I've been looking around for some.

From what I've been reading, the best piggyback system for a turboed NA is the AEM FIC or Greddy E-manage Ultimate. They're both modifiable to increase injector sizes and alter ignition timing, correct? However, I noticed not a lot of people on either this forum or g20.net use the AEM FIC or at least post about it. So there won't be a lot of support in that sense for tuning. Instead, I see it used more on other more modern cars, 1999+. Meanwhile, there's more documentation on this site on the EMU though. So which would be the preffered piggyback if I wanted to hit 250hp first and then move up to 400hp later on?

There's one thing I'm confused about with piggyback systems. Can I install the piggyback system onto a stock ecu with what I'm trying to achieve? Or would I need to have the ecu remapped with the appropriate components first (injectors, turbo size, maf, etc.), then install the piggyback system and tune from there?

Any responses will be helpful. TIA!

Im also in the same boat. sent calum a pm regarding pricing and availability to take ecu's and i havent heard back. so im starting to look around at other options. Do they make these for 96 B14? i saw on the website "B14 NX2000 (SR20DE) [upto 1995 only]"

im going to pull a ben fenner and say go standalone. calum ecu's are impossible to get, jwt price brand new is obserd. add in that basic chipped ecu to the cost of a safc2 to lightly tune it and your close to standalone prices.

stratton.

for some reason i didn't even bother to look into nistune. but after reading a couple threads, nistune looks like the way to go if i don't want to dish out the standalone price. from what i figure.

Nistune Type 4 package: $550
p10 obd1 ecu: $90 (ebay) + shipping to AutoVaughn

meanwhile buying a piggyback system:
AEM FIC: $350
Greddy EMU: $500

standalone:
AEM EMS: $1300 (they don't even have one compatible for 1993 g20)
Haltech: $1400

nistune might be the way to go considering it would be plug and play with consult, realtime tuning just for a couple hundred dollars more compared to paying double for standalone.

Just FYI used AEM EMS can commonly be found for around $1k. There is one for sale right now for $850 (which is madness). A used AEM EMS is just as good as a new one.

If you're looking to spend less however the Nistune seems to be the go-to option.

I am with ben you can get a new aem ems for under $1000. Also they do make a unit compatible with the 93 g20 p.n 30-1600. I have a 93 g20 ecu in my 92 se-r. they use the same harness.
