Magnaflow Resonator #12640 "Install Tips" EDIT 1/19/09
**EDIT** 1/21/2009

1.) I went to the muffler shop and the 12640 would not fit with a cat and the muffler shop would not install this without one. I'm selling the #12640 and I'm going with the Magnaflow 12646.

^Ok I have saw that some of you guys had this resonator installed on your cars. Any tips on having anything against the heat sheilds or extra hangers I may need when I have this put on?

It will be going on my N/A 93 SE-R with a 2.5" VRS/SS piping kit. From the looks of this, I want have room for a cat and I shouldn't need it for extra sound control on this install I would assume. I'm done with the RASP on the daily. Time to get a exhaust system setup with long term sound control. Any tips are thoughts are appreciated.

Current setup that is not doing the job

2.5" VRS stainless steel piping kit.
2.5" magnaflow resonator 14"length barrel x 4"round barrel x 22" overall
2.5" magnaflow highflow cat - NOT TEST PIPE.
60mm ApexiWS2 muffler.

^I will get a couple of sound clips as soon as possible so that I will have before and after results for you guys.

^Vadim Thread

^I looked over this thread and this is why I chose to go with the big boy resonator. Looking to here from people that are running this and how they are liking it.

This will be my future suspension setup just for clearance questions.

KYB AGX's
Hyperco's
Koni Bumpstops

Right now I'm on on OEM sturts/springs/bumpstops.

Thanks,MR

Hey man, I would suggest against this resonator. I'm getting tired and annoyed with mine. It scrapes on everything and my car is not even lowered. On turns it hits the walls, etc.

I'll probably be installing a smaller one soon.

^What is the next size down that you are considering? Whatever I install I want the the RASP gon. I just want to keep the 2.5" diameter of the pipe size for the airflow.

I put NISMO exhaust hangers on mine to keep it all nice and tight, and bent the heat shield back. I have had no problems with mine scraping. You get a bit more vibrations through the cabin, however.

Edit: Hum... I'm actually not sure which resonator I got. I think it was:14416 4x20 Magnaflow. Unfortunately it doesn't say on my invoice. Sorry.

Well keep Rob in mind for it

I'm honestly scared of anything that big. I don't want to have to reweld everything to find out it scrapes again.

Now that I'm boosted I want to run open downpipe because it just sounds awesome

^I don't think that would do the job without a cat if you are N/A. That's almost the same RESO I have on my daily right now. Pics and Vids coming.

If you remove all the hear shields and add an extra hanger to prevent the exhaust from moving side to side you'll be fine. I have the full VRS 3" system from the turbo back, and it does not hit the tunnel when I drive.

I have only had it on a week, and so far, I have not scraped it on anything. I of course am referring to the larger 6" can, found in one of the links in the original post.

My car still sounds terrible with the windows up. I think all the vibration/honing is coming from up front, on account of my JWT motor mounts. I hate the f***ing car sometimes. I am switching back to stock mounts asap.

^Dang, it's that bad? Anyway do you have any pics of your setup? Your turbo setup shouldn't be that loud as for as the exhaust system setup goes. The motor mount problem sounds like a totally different ball game.
