Well, once all my plans come together, the entire vehicles performance will be thoroughly upgraded, with nearly all Nissan OEM parts (VE motor w/accessories, B15/P11 tranny, NX2K f/Maxima r/Altima MC/SS lines brakes, Hyperco/CSK w/accessories based suspension). All of the parts will be equal to or better than OEM parts. I want OEM reliability, with greatly enhanced performance.

Technically you will not gain output. You will just need less output to overcome the ambient noise of the vehicle itself. And I *think* that a 3db drop in ambient noise (it might be a 6db drop) means you need 1/2 the amplifier power to achieve the same volume over and above the ambient noise. Therefore you need much less audio power to achieve the same results to your ears.

I sold SLV (Sound Lighting Video) installations for about a decade. Nightclubs, sports bars, houses of worship, etc... But it has been a while. Nor have I ever had a "serious system" in a vehicle.

I am thinking:

1) High Quality name-brand head unit. Single CD, OK.

2) Drive the four (4) speakers, door and rear parcel shelf off the head unit, cutting out maybe everything from about 80-100hz down. I already have to replace the parcel shelf speakers, the door speakers are JVC, passive X-over to the tweeters flush-mounted up on the door itself. Very clean, OEM looking install. I may have to replace the JVC's also, with a similar design, 1" tweets flush-mounted up on the doors, mid-range in the OEM location.

Here's the tweeter/mid's install:

3) A small, self powered sub-woofer under the passenger seat. Last I checked, Kenwood and couple others made small, self-powered subs that will actually fit under the seat.

Here's an example that would fit under the passenger seat:

Along with the sound-deadening, that should be just fine for my purposes. I want a minimalist, stealthy, yet solid and clean sounding system. I don't blare my music, just want it clean and clear, with a decent amount of thump. Inside a little-bitty Sentra, that should do it.

That sounds like a good plan Shawn. Should work out well for you. Nice job on the flush mount tweeters BTW.
