Rear Deck speaker question
Has anyone installed bigger speakers than just 6.5 in the rear deck? If so, how did you get around those trunk rods not interfering with the speakers when opening or closing the trunk. Pictures appreciated. THX I am speaking of a B13 SE-R by the way.

You have two options. Remove the trunk rods completely, but it will become very heavy to open. You can put some hydraulic piston shocks to open.

or, you can cut a piece of wood, 3/4" thick over the deck and put the speaker on it.

Or you could take out the rods and bend them to go around the speaker magnets. Thats what I did.

That's actually dirty compared to what it usually is, I didn't clean up yet and all that dirt since it has been sitting so long. Anyway, mine just just lifts enough so I can lift it with my hand when I go back there. I've never had problems like yours before. But when I actually use my trunk I use my key because I'm back there anyway.

and if you search for some pics sentrixx has, he used a spacer for his. We both have the same speakers in our rear deck. The ED 6.5" sub and the magnets are quite big.

That's what I did... They might have been an inch thick. Wooden rings in the shape of a 6 x 9 speaker, painted black. I guess I could get pics...

If you don't want to cut the tension rods you can modify them like Sentrixx did. I haven't seen him post anything in the audio section lately so I will give you a link to some of his pics so you can see how he made more space for the larger magnets.
