Auto -> Stick Conversion: The Longer Road.....
So, I'm finishing (FINALLY!) a automatic to stick conversion on my car. Thing is, I was already working on some other wiring stuff (that'll follow some other time, not finished with that yet. In my research, I've learned that the GA clutch interlock relay and the SR CIR have the same coloring. SO what im attempting to do is wire in the relay to my auto harness. My research looks like it should be simple enough. I simply have to jump the wires from the SR Auto relay that lead to the ignition switch and starter to this GA clutch relay, then wire in the clutch. Simple enough, dont you think?

I've looked @ the wiring diagram and labeled the wires, as you can see with my great tape tags LOL.

For my other project, I figured out how to pop the wires out of the relays, but can't figure out how to do it for this clutch relay. So unfortunately, I'm thinking have to strip and solder/tape. I figure while I'm in there I'll also do the fog light mod. Complete a couple things at once. The fun starts tomorrow.

I would interrupt the neutral safety switch for the clutch switch. Low current and just a ground signal. I would have to look at my schematic when i get home but i believe the stock SR clutch switch is only a ground signal and does not cut the starter wire directly.

You're right.

Got some more work done today.

The first splice. I'm holding the old inhibitor relay. You can see the first connection below. Black/yellow to black/white. This one comes in from the battery.

The 2nd connection. This goes out to the starter.

This is for the igniton switch. Brown to skinny black/yellow.

The last one left in the relay is a black/red that goes straight to the clutch interlock switch inside the car. You can see it in the top left corner of the last pic. I found a way in from the passenger side, so I just ran it through there. Forgot to take pics of that, I'll do it tomorrow.

Also the B14 Fog light mod today, and I'm thinking of doing the B14 side markers and HID's with black/orange corners tomorrow as well. Gotta love these 3 day weekends!

Wiring gurus, halp! This is a 2-wire connection. There’s a IMO 12 gauge wire that runs from the relay box to the starter, and a 2nd wire that more than likely is simply a signal to something. My question is, what is it signaling? I remember one end also goes into the cabin, but can’t remember what connector I cut it off of.

I cut off the 12 gauge wire because I’m using the other wire as the clutch relay. Does anyone know what this wire was originally used for? This particular connector is from a manual wiring harness, but it’s also used in automatic harnesses as well. I’ll take a pic of the automatic one when I get home. Hopefully that will help jog someone’s memory...

Got more done today. In the FSM's, both the GA and SR neutral + back up lamp switches share similar wiring schematics. Acting on a hunch, I pick up GA switches from the junkyard and test them on my SR tranny. They fit up just fine. Now, the only thing left is to find out whether I can tap the neutral switch into the ECU, or if I'll have to run a wire from the switch itself to it.
