Remote start with chipped key
I have a 99 Maxima with remote start. The car uses a chipped key or vehicle immobilizer.

I wanted to know how that works. Is there a key in the ignition to make the car start? That was what I was told when I bought the car, but I haven't looked behind the ignition or anything yet.

I lost my only other key and don't want to pay Nissan $100+ to have another key made. I have a courtesy key, where now I have to use the remote start to start the car, then put the key in to drive.

If I just try to start the car with the courtesy key, it turns on then off in like 2 seconds.

You need a imobilizer bypass unit for your remote start system.

jeff iv got a few things to say;

1. for the remote start they have a key hidden under the dash to by pass the NATS system (NATS is the nissan anti theft system) to find this key find the black wires wraped around the ignition (it will look just like headphone wire) then trace it back to the black box it will plug into. the box can be opened by removing the 4 small screws.

2. if you need a key made call me and i can program it for you. if you drive up to were i work ill do it for you for free. i work 1 minute down the road from agile auto.
