.5 CF box?
say i made a sub box that was 3.5 inches deep.........how tall/wide would it need to be to be .5 cubic feet? it can be a perfect square.

i want another sub setup that is more "low profile" but i refuse to pay $100+ for the "stealth" setups they make for mazda3 hatch backs.

the idea i am having is to remove the false floor and cargo tray from the hatch area then make an MDF false floor with a .5 cubic foot box attached to the underside of the floor. this will allow easy removal to get to the spare tire. and a grill over the sub will make the entire hatch area still fully usefull!

standard airspace formula for speaker enclosure..LxWxH(inches)=XXXX
Divide XXXX by 1728 to get cubic feet.
Dont forget to subtract for thicness of wood,and 5-10% for woofer displacement,depending on the size of the magnet on your sub.
A .5 box is tinyI am guesing you are gonna go 6.5 or 8 inch woofer.You will usually have to play with the dimensions alittle to get the box how you want it.

Smaller than optimum will be puchier and tighter,larger will yeild lower bass,but less powerhandling and punchiness

Hope that helped.

example
10x10x10=1000
divide by 1728=.5787xxxxx
That is damn close (except without figuring wood thickness)

You will have to start with the 3.5 depth and figure from there how big to make the box.

i dont think im useing a box now.

my plan now is to make a false floor and flush mount the sub in the floor but infinite baffle style. i have never heard an IB setup before in my life and have no clue if they sound good or like pure crap.

Its all in the install with IB. I use to run 2 Id max's IB and they were nice and clean bass. This was in my toyota corolla(dd) thing slammed with 2 of them on 3000 watts. I was huge into car audio but now I'm broke from the sentra and sold everything haha. This wasn't a walmart setup this was high dollar stuff. Not sure what your running but IB would keep down on the weight and give you a little bit of bass. For your needs i would say it would be fine considering your running such a small sub.

im going to use an elemental designs SQ10. its going to be mounted 1inch lower than the false floor and im going to build a grill out of an MDF ring coverd in the same material i use to cover the MDF floor with. when its installed you wont be able to see a single thing even hinting at a sub being in the car.
