Thread: Locating scrap or salvage yard parts cars....?

I feel like I have been baptized in dust, dirt, grime and sweat.

Went to the other LKQ salvage yard....

One (1) 2-door 91 B13. Now knowing exactly how to remove a headliner panel, I got it out rather quickly. Hell yes, intact and about to be made beautiful. Now I can finish my interior.

The A-pillar trim, C-pillar trim, and grab-handles ("oh shit" handles) are all three (3) different from a 2-door to a 4-door B13. That is a fact.

So is the extra trim piece that connects the top of the A-pillar, to the top of the C-pillar on a 4-door. There is no connecting piece in a 2-door. Hence, why the headliner panels are cut-out differently down each side.

I grabbed some other odds and ends, including a bunch of fasteners I needed.

That was fun.

Careful, you'll get hooked like I am, a Junkyard Junkie. Wait till you check out the Infinity row for upgrades. I've got overhead handles from a Q45, P10 leather parking brake handle,the list goes on.

I am looking for Nissan/Infiniti grab handles (oh shit handles, overhead handles, whatever...) in all-black from the factory. That will bolt right in to my Sentra.

Black surround or mounting trim, black handle. To match my Bat-Cave decor.

Any suggestions?

I'm going to be recovering my headliner in black so I got the black overhead handles from a Q45. I think it's the rears that are to long so I got one from the front passanger side from a couple different Q45s. Black J30's also work. Black sunvisor clips also came from an Infinity, (J30 think), They have plastic caps that cover the screw heads and fit perfectly. I got a black overhead light from a Maxima. The screw hole didn't line up but there was an indentation to drill a hole for the screw and it installed like factory. The rear view mirror also came form a Maxima but I got a black screw cover for it from a Pulsar that had a black interior. I also got the true black window crank handles from a Pulsar. The plastics tabs that hold up the rear of the headliner come from a 200SX with a black headliner,( Or you can paint the ones you have)
I haven't figured out where to get black sunvisors yet but I painted the A pillar trim a few years ago with VHT satin black dye, it matches perfectly and doesn't wear off. I'll probably use the VHT on the sunroof switch too.
All these pieces are installed so I know they work and are an upgrade. If you find a solution to the sunvisors let me know.

Just looked over this thread and most advise is pretty good. Just a couple of tricks to add when you go to the yard.

1. All the cars usually have jacks and spare tires. Just grab a jack from a car and use it. Spare tires or just loose tires make great jack stands for working under a car. You can usually find lug wrenches easily also.

2. Trunk mats work good for laying on the ground to work on.

3. Serated steak knife for cutting hoses.

4. Battery powered sawsall if you are after body panels.

5. Walk the entire yard, look inside cars and trunks. You never know what you will find. I scored a brand new K&N drop in filter for $5 because the original box was laying on the back seat in the car. Sometimes you will even find performance parts.

6. All Nissan rear view mirrors are the same. Found a perfect one laying on the front seat of a car with a broken windshield.

7. When you remove something, put all the fasteners into a bag with the part.

8. A lot of the cars will have freshly rebuilt parts on them

At least in my local yard stock changes constantly. If you don't find what you are looking for go back a few days or a week later. I have found anywhere from 1 to 10 or more B13s on various trips.

Utterly and completely awesome sir. Exactly what I needed to know, where to start looking for those parts. And of course my headliner and all interior trim is going to be black. All the "light pale grayish-blue" shit is going away.

Yesterday when I made my first ever trip to the salvage yards, I felt like an old pro. Had all my shit, everything I needed, and was successful first time out.

You can recover your headliner yourself. Just get some glue and fabric. If you have JoAnn Fabrics locally they usually stock headliner material and it is pretty cheap + check your local paper they have lots of coupons. If you need details on the glue just ask, I will dig my can out and give you specifics.

For painting interior parts ( all except fuzzy parts ) I use SEM Color Coat spray paint works on metal also. I have re-done entire interiors using that paint. Usually available at auto body supply places and maybe some parts places.
