Mixing & matching cams
What effect will mixing and matching cams have on a motor and the way it produces power & torque. I would like to know more on this topic. Any input is welcome.

Yes. It will affect the powerband. It may be good, maybe not. I know DSM guys have been running 264 in./272 ex. combos on there cars for years. It gives a bit better spool up without completely sacrificing the top end. I would just size everything accordingly, and run the same.

I believe the reason people do this is to equalize the amount of airflow in and out of the engine. Most cars have larger intake runners and smaller exhaust runners, iirc.

I would help out if I had the energy and time. As it stands now I'm not about to teach a class on cam tech. I'm just way too drained. I suggest Topdog and others do their own research and reading. Yes, cams are complicated things so it may take a while, but sit back and think of how hard it would be for someone (one of us forum members) to explain such a complicated concept in such an open-ended manner. We'd get paid thousands of dollars to teach this to a class of automotive tech students. Topdog, do you realize what you're asking? Do you want that kind of composition out of us?

Maybe head over to [url]www.motoiq.com[/url] and ask for an article series to be written on cam tech. At least they get paid (sort of) to do that.

Wow don't post on the forum if you think you should be getting paid. Damn someones gettin a real big head. He didn't ask you to write a book lol. Maybe a simple explanation or something, but if its to complicated simply saying that could work to. Sorry your not getting paid to volontarily come sign in and contribute to the forum professor benny

I get where ben is coming from. It is just a really complex topic that will require one to their research.

Everyone here wants to contribute, and we do freely. But something as complex as this would require a lot of background knowledge already, and posting up a complete write-up about this topic would be incredibly time consuming.

I would say check your resources. The forum is free, but I see where ben is coming from. Right? After all, it isn't like he is saying "pay me to tell you". Just stating that the time to do a write up wouldn't be worth it when the info is available elsewhere.

Hybrid cams can be used. It works pretty well depending on the circumstances. Cams sizing is be utilized for setups using turbos and superchargers. But it is more that just duration and lift. The actual ramp opening rate is another variable to consider, and it does get very complicated to find what works best.
