MSD Ignition Products
Hey everyone. Just like all of you I have looked into getting MSD ignition products, and I was just given a digital 6+ unit that was fried. I haven't done much research on it until I tore into it. (I work for a aerospace company that builds circuit cards at military and commercial levels *J-standard certified*)

IT WAS A PIECE OF CRAP. Cracked parts, corrosion on the solder joints, the conformal coat was peeling off, and there was flux everywhere (high acid level flux can cause solder joints to fail) if any of you have had problems with MSD, it’s because their build quality is CRAP. I even found wire clippings just hanging around in the box ready to short stuff out.

When I called the company in search of replacement parts for the ignition, they refused to help me. they said "if you want to send it in we will fix it" I can see the money in their eyes over the phone for crying out loud, I already have it torn apart, why not just send me the .50 cent part and let me do it. Again they refused... apparently something you can buy from any local AutoZone, or checker, is PROPRIETARY MATERIAL, and they will not discuss any of the internal parts.

I called 15 different parts stores and had to buy a transistor from a nationally company. (90 percent of the places are not for consumers and are mainly for corporations and bulk purchases) and soon it will be back on the streets (thankfully)

I did a little more research, and found out that there are a few local Honda’s that actually have caught on fire because of MSD ignition products. If you ask me, they are not worth it. i dont have any proof, that is just word of mouth.

Opinions? Comments? Questions? Would really like some feedback. I don’t have a very good rep on here... but hopefully I can make it up.
