I have a MK4 Jetta TDI, I average at least 45MPG combined. That's stock with a straight pipe. It makes cool turbo noises and my best yet is 50.8 MPG. I usually get well over 700 miles per tank. I love my TDI

What that couple needs to do now is forget this diesel craze, switch to a urine-run engine and make a 1-way tube where they can pee from the driver/passenger seat and keep the car running without making any stops.

Then they can really set some records!

I don't mind the altima part as much as I mind the cvt part!

That wont work, they probably already recycle their urine by drinking it.

Well, I don't see why all cars aren't getting 50mpg already. We have direct injection, 13:1 compression gas engines which see over 100% VE, then we put them into fat ugly cars and get 35mpg.

Take the original SER, make it aerodynamic, drop in that new Altima engine/trans combo. Easy 50mpg highway. Add huge compression and direct injection; then we're talkin' 230hp 2.5L that gets over 50mpg.

Or how about a diesel/hybrid. Then I could see 80mpg city, and 55-60mpg freeway. Or I am completely wrong? At any rate, the technological strides in engineering over the last 20 Years should make cars better today. But alas, they got fat. Just like Americans got fat.
Cars today are just too fat. A sentra that used to weigh 2400lbs is now 3000lbs.

I could imagine a CRX that weighs 1800lbs with a direct injection 1000cc motor at 13:1 compression. That car would get easily over 50mpg on lean-burn tech. And it would make enough power to be fun.
