Newb's BASIC NA VQ35DE Tuning Guide
The Newb's Performance-Per-Dollar
VQ35DE NA "Bolt-On" Tuning

Free!
lose weight

Good Value:

* Z-Tube
* Pulleys
* Intake Plenum
* Cat-Back Exhaust(*2)
* VQ35HR Y Pipe
* Tuned Osiris or reflashed ECU
* 4.07 or 4.08 rear end (can't remember the gear ratio)

Decent Value-per-dollar:

* Flywheel
* Cams
* Headers (much more challenging to install than FWD SR20)
* ITBs

Little Value-per-dollar(*3):

* Hi-flow Cat
* Test Pipe
* Extrude Honing
* Big Throttle Body
* Big MAF
* Ported or aftermarket Intake Manifold
* Stroker Kit ($$$!)
* Headwork/Valvejob
* Adjustable FPR

Waste of Money:

* Bosch/Splitfire/TorqueMaster Plugs
* "Tornado" or other swirly Intake
* Non-OEM Spark Plug Wires (i.e. Magnecor)
* Bosch/Splitfire/TorqueMaster Plugs

(1) Performance as defined by either power or effect on power
(2) Hypothetical comparison of $/power between $100 muffler and $500 cat-back
(3) Some of these might be somewhat more effective ONLY when all previous bolt-ons have been executed

** (Of course a Turbo or Supercharger are higher performance value than all bolt-ons)

Great thread. Solid mods for a newb. I am assuming you will be adding more info onto here?

thanks, i will be adding more as I learn more.. I am very new to G35 modifications.. I'm not even 100% sure on the value per dollar listings above.. they are just generalizations i've made from reading one or two sources.. and you know you have to read multiple sources to find the correct answers..

if you have any input it would be greatly appreciated.
