OK, advice needed (slicks)
First shameless pic whoring

How is everyone launching on slicks? I am trying to do my same method ("knee jerk" on the clutch & roll onto the throttle) as I did on radials, but I am thinking there is something better. Just curious to see what other people are doing.

I am cutting 1.9** 60's, but am I off the wall if I think 1.7's are there?

Thanks,

Doug

I simply hold the car at the highest RPM I'm willing to lol(~7k), and drop the clutch. Keep in mind I don't have to worry about building boost or anything like that. Mostly 1.9's NA and 1.7's spraying but I have gotten a few 1.8's NA as well.

Damn

I'm going to need to have a tow vehicle ready when I try that

I had a funny feeling that was how to do it.

Thanks

No problem. The key to it is practicing. Start at a rpm your comfortable with and slowly go up from there. If you're too low, it'll bog obviosly.

I always preload the clutch at about 6500 rpm
with those 24.5" slicks.I don't think it's a good idea
to dump the clutch.

yep, dump the clutch at "X" rpm and pray that nothing breaks.... with 24.5" slicks and a 75 shot, i was cutting 1.7x 60 ft times, and 1.9x NA, but that was a long time ago...

well when i went out last time i was gonna pound mine off the rev limiter and try to quickly slip the clutch out almost to the point of dumping it but a little slower. lol but i screwed up cuz the guy next to me was taking so long, i reved it up to 4.5k and preloaded the drivetrain, then when the tree lit down i was gonna just punch the throttle and slip it out quick but i screwed up and started letting the clutch out when i went to punch the throttle and red lighted and only launched at 4.5k or so and bogged the crap out of it. 2.20 60', i was nervous too ill admit that being it was my first time on slicks but i was more anxious because i was waiting for the other car to stage.

But yeah there was more there, and the slicks didnt even spin a tad through first and second gear, i moved through first and second in about 5 seconds flat even though i wasted over a second bogging. my first gear took longer to get through than my second gear, lol. But thats where i lost soo much time on my street tires was the spinning through first and second. I pulled a 2.17 60' on my falken zeix tires but thats cuz i launched at 5k and slipped the clutch out nicely and the track was well prepped. Oh and those are 195's also. The slicks are a good 2.5" wider when aired down to 10psi. haha

Cant wait to go back out here in a couple months to try again for an 11 second pass. Although by that time i might have a T28 on there so its probably not gonna even be a question whether or not i hit an 11 just a matter how far down into the 11's i can get. haha. Gonna be crazy top end.

And i have a backup car i just bought so i wont be out a car to drive to work it something does break. lol I just hate being 3 hours away from the track. Oh and good luck Doug, good to see you back out there. Cant wait to see some great times this season.

exactly. my method is as follows:

-shallow stage
-push in clutch and engage first gear
-push in 2step button
-floor it so it's 2stepping at 5500rpm and builds about 5psi
-gradually let off clutch until car barely rolls
-instantly after it rolls, dump the clutch and let go of button at same time

i may have to try some more finess on my launch, cuz my 24.5x9x13's are spinnin pretty hard.
