I never broke an axle but tannies now, that's a different story. I have about 11 old style trannies under my belt. Most of them broke on the street though. I broke about 3 of them at the track.

HAHA!

I have about 10 gearboxes under my belt. I cracked one housing at the track and I have blown 3rd gear countless times.

Somthing about that 125 shot of nitrous I use to pump through that motor that the 3rd gear did not like While on boost I never broke a tranny. Go figure.

Its a funny thing how it happens that way. Every time ive trailered my car to the track i have never broken anything. Then had bad luck coming home on the trailer. The connection for the trailer light came loose and freakin got pulled over 2 miles from the gas staton near the main highway to go home and got a freakin ticket. No warning, no nothing. Straight up ticket.

I told the cop, so let me get this straight. All the other times i have gone to the track and ended up breaking something and my buddy with his Lancer EVO 8 towed me 3 hours home with a 20ft tow strap and never got pulled over and got thumbs up from two different highway patrol officers. Then the time i actually do it right and trailer it i get a freakin ticket.

So i figured screw it so i drove it there and broke and for the 4th time the evo towed me home with a tow strap with no trouble at all, not even a cop in sight.

I hate that it happens that way.

Funny thing is i have never broken a trans at the track, its always been on the street. I think the slicks provide a very nice cusion when hard shifting even with the twin disk clutch in there now. On the street i went through 2 in a month after the twin disk went in. Its definetly harsh.

That and now im using this Valvoline 85w140 gear oil and i think thats helping out a lot as well. So we will see. I hate that the track is 3 hours away though. Really sucks but what am i gonna do. haha

I have seen OEM axles take a beating and never give so that is why I ask. Andreas for one alway ran OEM axles and never had any issues and his car was dead hooking back in the days while launching on a big shot of smack.

I have not read thru the entire thread so sorry if this was already coverd.
I was breaking axles at around 350whp. I got the DSS axles with the hub and all and paid about $1200 or 1300. After that I never broke an axle again. I used to pull 1.5 60fts all the time in my sentra. Im sure you remember Rob.
As far as Ashton running 9s on his current whp. I dont think it will happen. My car made 540 to 560whp and traped 138mph. The cars weight with me in it was 2340. My best pass was a 10.8 @ 138 or so with a second stage of nitrous which probaly put over 600whp. I did have a lot of wheel spin in 3rd and beginning of 4th. probaly could of pulled a 10.5 if I could shift to 3rd without babing it. For that car to run 9s you will need about 700 to 800whp. That 9 is a very hard number to reach. Not saying you cant do it but you will need to invest in a tranny and axles. Also add a nice little 150shot of nitrous to get the job done. That way you dont have to rev the piss out of the car to get it to leave.. Good luck to you and dont give up on that 9sec pass. I know I gave up cause at the time I was running my car there was no other tranny solutions for me.

if you havent seen the build thread, SpecV 6 speed going in, Have you seen the size of the Spec V stock axles? They are rediculously big. And i though our axles were pretty beefy. I dont think those stock axles will have any problem taking the power and possible 1.5 60's. That and the trans should hold up a lot better.

As far as power goes, i should be in the 700-750whp range. So the 9 wont be far away. Just watch. Thats all i can say right now.

As far as oem nissan fwd sr20 axles are concerned, They are pretty stout. The fact was is i dead hooked from an 8k rev limiter launch. Not good..... I was at least expecting the slicks to break loose a bit initially but they didnt. Had they of it wouldnt have broken. Very sticky track, very good burnout, and low slick psi and dead hook at 8k = no good!!!!

I never had problems before with this amount of power. But i never dead hooked like that. All it took was a good set of slicks and set to the right pressure.

I agree that you are not to far away from a nice 10sec pass. As far as a 9sec pass good luck! Dont take this the wrong way. I have been Drag Racing for about 15 years now and have always had my se-r since the beginning. That is untill I saw the light and went RWD!!!! So I know its not that easy to run 9secs in a fwd car. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions for me... Maybe there is something I know that could guide you in that 9sec direction... As far as the axles are concerned, you will need something other than stock ones... IT does not matter how beefy they look.. Its the materal that is used. If you want to make the car a bit more dependable... Remember racing is not a dependable sport... lol

lol, I think the stock axles will be fine man, As years go by your talking parts are being made by better and better material. Our oem nissan axles are how old now? Exactly. And yes size does matter in this case. Take two pieces of metal with same material characteristics just one bigger than the other. Which is gonna take more force to break it? The bigger of course.

Stock spec v axles will work fine as i said. Its all in how you launch as well. Preload and not launching at 8k and dead hooking helps out quite a bit.

The spec v axles will take the abuse man, Im not looking at paying 1300 or more for a set of axles when stocks will work fine.

I like you have been around drag racing for a long time. And always get the comment of i cant believe your on stock axles with that much power. Like im gonna break them on the street when daily driving it or getting on it. haha I just laugh. I dont get the traction on the street to break an axle and never have broken and axle on the street launching or roll punching it. My axles held up to over 2 1/2 years of drag strip launches on slicks pulling high 1.6 60's.

Fact is that i didnt expect to dead hook at 8k launch. A nice 6-6.5k launch would have been perfect and axle would not have broken as i have done those launches several times before without issues. I tried to up the anty on it and see what happened. Didnt come out well. I could have done two things in that situation. launch at a lower rpm or roll out a bit with the preload then dump. It was a mistake and live and learn.

But with the power i was making our stock axles have been known to hold and have held for me. Its all in the technique. Again ive pulled some sick 60fts that put some rwd guys on DR's to shame.

Its gonna come straight down to power. And with what im shooting for i dont think its far off. I wouldnt be surprised if i just say hell with the 10's and go straight into the 9's. Thats the goal. Will i be dissapointed if i dont hit a 9 on the first try. No but hey its a shot im willing to take. lol.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Ive got my plans in mind and sticking with them. Ive always done this before and its always worked out very well on my end. I couldnt be happier with the results of my setups.
