i have kyb agx's with hyperco b14 springs. koni bumpstops and the motivational engineering rear shock mount that gives +1 inch ride height in the rear.

i live in PA where the roads suck. i would not recommend this for a DD and weekend warrior car if u live where ****ty roads exist.

coilovers would be a much better alternative.

Quoted for the truth. Last summer i drove up there in my B14 with the Tein SS suspension and as soon as i got to PA I had to soften up my suspension. Roads up there suck. Especially the lehigh valley area. After I softened up the suspension I had no problems.

Im not a fan of AGX's with ANY springs.... Be it Hyperco's, Road Magnets, or anything. I might get flamed for this but in MY OPINION the AGXs go good paired with the GC coilovers due to the fact the height is adjustable. Hypercos and road magnets are basically stiff lowering springs.... The AGX's are stock length shocks and struts..... Better to go with a shortened strut body (Tein coilovers, CSK's)

I have a set of hyperco, but no struts yet. I am prolly gonna go with AGX for the price and they have worked well on DSMs in the past for me. I plan on daily driving this car. I don't want a ton of adjustment. This may sound crazy, but you can adjust camber with a simple bolt. Stock mounts for me. Some aftermarket struts come with a cam bolt and a plate welded on the strut for it. Then you can just loosen the bolt and turn it to adjust camber. You have to get under the car, but why spend all the money unless you are a die hard track nerd?

Maybe we can change this thread to best handling street car thread? There are simply too many options out there to consider if you don't know what the car is being used for.

I've read a little bit into some CSK's and I'd like to get some since it sounds like a much better ride with GC's than my current AGX's. I'm just wondering where people get the housings for the inserts or if poeple just make the housing or both. I'm still a pretty big noob to suspension so i'll be paying close attention to this thread.

The shortened Konis are worth the cost and effort compared to AGX's in my opinion. You can just use the stock strut housings for the Koni inserts. You have to cut the top off with a pipe cutter. Detailed instructions are available here or on the other SR20 forum. If you have any questions, I can try to answer them. I've performed the procedure.

It is not an "ideal setup" to mate the AGXs with the Hyperco or Road Magnet springs. However, it is certainly a very workable, and highly affordable set-up.

The exact combo of Hyperco Gen II, AGX's, and Koni bumps was reviewed in SCC by both Dave Coleman and Mike Kojima. Both of whom proclaimed it a very acceptable, inexpensive, set-up. The stiff spring rate keeps you off your bumpstops in most situations, and should you hit the bumpstops the Koni bumpstops themselves are "progressive rate" bumpstops. In effect, the Koni bumpstops become a part of the springs themselves.

Further, when Mike K, Chriscar and the Hyperco Engineers designed the Hyperco Gen II's, one of the overriding and specific performance criteria was that the springs would indeed work with stock length struts, specifically the AGX's.

I happen to own AGX's, Hyperco Gen II, Koni bumps, Cusco FSTB, AT RSTB, Superpro caster bushings, Progress RSB, OEM dustboots, B14 wheels and ES100 tires. Is it ideal? Nope. Was it a vast, vast, overwhelming improvement over stock? Yep. It even "bottoms out" LESS than stock due to the (much) higher spring rates.

Thee Only Thing I would improve on my DD Classic, is to upgrade to the CSK's. Oh yeah, and I'm adding an Ikea brace when I get some body-work done, just for chuckles.

In conclusion, I agree with you gentlemen without question that the CSK's would be a better ($$$) strut to utilize, however when on a strict budget the AGX's work perfectly well with the Hyperco Gen II's or Road Magnets.

2 cents.

I concur with the Intellectual Barbarian. The only difference I found with the Konis is a better ride quality, especially at low speeds over certain types of road imperfections (regardless of setting on the KYB). To me, in a daily driver, this is a huge difference, and worth the extra cost.

I have a bad case of "CSK envy."

Someday....when funds permit, I will sell my AGX's and buy some CSK's. No question about it. Further, wifey does NOT like being a passenger in my Classic with the AGX/Hyperco set-up. However, she does like piloting the vehicle. It is rather harsh, no question about it, but livable from the drivers seat. Maybe the harshness is less noticable because it is so fun to drive?

On the other hand, my current set-up was a HUGE, night and day, improvement in every way possible over my OEM springs and worn-out Tokico Blues. That set-up was the definition of suckness.

Haven't been here in a fairly good while. ARE YOU BACK ON THE ROAD, Shawn? Hot damn. NOW I have something else to learn upon coming back again - CSK's. Sigh. BUT I'm indeed about spent out on the toy - the ve what with hyperco/genII, stillen front brace and all the usual other stuff. Works okay, stiff as um, well, bottoms not much, points quite well in autox, not slow when up against most things except hairdryers running 20 lbs or more (the big bang theory of performance). and Shawn keeps saying $$$ on the CSKs. Hm. Bah humbug. But Shawn's up and running again, yay! BUT, boy, when you bashed that thing that was a girlfriend in the right seat. You went and got permanently wenched whilst I was gone? You found someone to put up with that feisty temper of yours????? WOW. :-)
(for the rest of you, in case you can't tell, the big bouncer is one of my favorite folk here - LOVE to give him a hard time)
