I am reminded, and so shall share with you all, that there are plenty of 4-cylinder cars which came with "ricey", as squirls so eloquently put it, dual exhaust from the factory;

Honda S2000
Toyota MR-2 (turbo and non turbo)
Dodge SRT-4
just to name a few.

To go around posting that "dual exhaust" is downright "ricey, stupid, and pointless" is a gross display of ignorance on several peoples parts. People so quickly forget such simple things like factory dual exhaust four bangers.

I'd never put dual exhaust on either of my cars, not even for a wastegate dump on my turbo car, but I'll admit I thought about making a custom set of secondaries and running dual all the way out the back from the header just the Germans do on the BMW's and Benz's do. That would be a "true" dual exhaust. But I went boost instead lol. And I'll stick with an OEM looking 2.5-3" tip hanging out the back. Stealth=clean clean=sex!

Btw, the muffler on that silver s2k is expensive as shyte!

Building custom secondaries and running 2 pipes all the way back is not rice. Its a true dual exhaust. If you have enough flow to make use of 2 pipes then use them. But dont split it half way. Think about it.

I dont care if it comes factory on any car, its stupid and a waste. There are no flow benefits from splitting the exhaust from the axle back. Why do you think that the aftermarket goes to one outlet on the S2K? Its not like they are running 4" then splitting to 2 smaller pipes. You show me that splitting a 2" pipe into 2 2" pipes 3/4 the way back makes any difference in flow and i will eat my words. It is a stupid marketing ploy which works on people who think its cool and adds power. There are lots of dumb people out there to make them think it is better, but i am not one of them.

Agreed. Full on factory rice.

I think they probably also do it to make the rear end balanced and more athletically pleasing while ignoring performance.

Yah, that's rice in my book.

And just to make this even more fun, there are plenty of 4 bangers with true dual exhausts. I see them on motorcycles all the time.

If you have 1 exhaust manifold, you should have one exhaust tip, one cat (if you so choose), one muffler, etc.

It would be like taking your intake and splitting it off into 2 air filters lol

LMAO at this thread. Lets not forget the AE101 Trueno which is a 1.6 and comes out with duals, power sapping duals they are too I must say.

Personally I think its personal, some will like the rice appeal (Nothing wrong with a bit of rice :P), and there may be a point in splitting them up somewhere down the back, I just can't think of it.
I wish to point all your attention to the bosozoku cars from Japan, those are exhausts!

if you have the means, for an NA street car, true dual is nice. allows you to run smaller piping front to back, using resonators on EACH set of piping. makes for a MUCH quieter exhaust, with less compromise in performance.

Ummmmmm like how? How would YOU have a true dual exhaust? Like from the headers back? Like two 1 5/8 pipes running parralell from the headers to rear bumper?????????

Isnt there some gains to having all 4 exhaust tubes running into one? I know little to nothing about this but doesnt the previously fired cylinder help pull the gasses from the next one down the line? If this is true would it work with 2?
