head bolt re-torque procedure
Hi,

was wondering if anyone can help me out with the
procedure to re-torque head bolts (sr20ve) after new head gasket

perhaps an extract from a service manual? with procedure
for removing and replacing cams etc

just want to make sure i get it all right

also whens a good time to re-tension head bolts
on a race-track only engine?

thanks in advance

SEQUENCE

To remove:
<----- Front of motor
4 8 10 6 2
3 7 9 5 1

To install:
<----- Front of motor
7 3 1 5 9
8 4 2 6 10

TORQUE SPECS with Step:
1- 29ft lbs
2- 58 ft lbs
3- Loosen all bolts 100%
4- 25-33 ft lbs
5- tighten 90 degrees
6- tighten another 90 degrees for a total of 180 degrees. NOTE: DONT do 180 all at once, do it in the 2 steps.

iirc, you wont need to re-tension stock BOLTS. you do need to for some ARP head STUDS though

peace

I had assumed they were the initial installation steps,

Excuse my ignorance,
but why would you need steps 1 & 2 on an
Engine that has been running, id expect the
bolts to already be tighter...

and do you want to loosen all the bolts
(step 3) when re-torquing?

Just before I got it. Its my first ve engine and I haven't
had it apart yet...

Just thought id try and gain some knowledge before I do

Usually forums like this one are brilliant places to begin
