SR20VE exhaust question, need opinion.
Hello guys,
Here is the issue, im going to put a SR20VE in my B14 but im concern about the exhaust size i need to use. The main issue is that here where i live, they are going to prohibit the mufflers, so i would need to use silencers.

So i was thinking on using a 3inch exhaust with a glasspack and then divide the pipe in two 2.5" tubes and use Dynomax Superturbo 2.5" silencers. I think if my calculations are not wrong that this would flow even better than a 3" exhaust with muffler. I dont know what do you think guys...

Any thoughts?

I need this to be a very quiet exhaust not more than 98dbs at 4000rpms...

I will be using a SSAC 2.5" header.

If quiet is a big concern you might want to go with 2.5" throughout. Not sure where you will fit 2 mufflers for the 2 2.5" pipes.

Mcarp22's solution really works. You could also think about a Dynomax VT muffler. I agree two pipes side by side are going to be tough to fit any resonators or mufflers. Also you might think about an OEM baffled muffler as well. Something like the last gen Eclipse muffler or Subaru STI or something that might flow some even with baffles. 2.5" is going to keep the frequencies higher, which are easier to cancel with typical perforated core resonators.

I'm telling you... if it is a daily car or commuter, go with a 2.5" all the way... scratch 3" because it isn't quiet. If you decide to go with 3" don't say someone didn't tell you.

You don't need 3" exhaust unless you plan on making this a race car. That said, I have a 3" full mandrel on my car. Someone stole my 2.5" stainless out of my garage during the time I was modifying it along with a few other things. I had planned on going back to it.

ahem...
look here.
Car Chemistry Shop

i actually have the 3", 3 disk insert on a shelf in the garage. you can run your 3" exhaust with this inside the tailpipe to quiet things immensely, then take it out for dyno/racing or whatever.
or you may wanna think about a cut-out. just a couple ideas

Hi there,
The plan is to use 2 pipes but separated like a dual exhaust like the ones used on the V8 cars or the 350Z.

Even if i use a dual 2.25" i think it will be quiet at least at lower rpms and i think would flow like a 3" exhaust.

Thanks for the tips guys!

At this moment im running a 2.5" exhaust with a Flowmaster muffler. it will work good at least untill i get money to make the new one.
