Thoughts on modding an ssac
now i know someone has already done this, with some proven albeit slight gains.

But im wondering if you were to take it a step further and completely do away with the flanges making it a 1 piece header and just attach the 2" secondaries to the y pieces and run them down about 10-12 inches and then step it up to 2 1/8" or 2 1/4" for another 10-12 inches to the 2.5" collector then to the 3" flex tube an out do the 3" pipe to the cat. would that even work? or am i sniffin glue?

this would be something for a 2.0 with n1 cams an possibly 16ve pistons down the road..

my guess would be it would most likely do better then a stock ssac, but would it do better then just bumping them to 2" then out to 3" ?

sadly i cannot afford a real 4-1 header and if i can spend a few hunskie making the ssac a little better then why not..

anyway lookin to her some opinions from people who know their stuff, TIA

yea i have a friend who said he would be down to do the welding (in fact you know him (h2theizzo))

i know the only way to know for sure is to do it but i want some feed back and ideas on weather to leave the flange or do away with it, and if its worth stepping it from 2" to something bigger.. and possibly extending the secondaries further then the other guy that modded his ssac

I say no flanges and extend. It's less chance for a leak, less gasket so a smoother run inside. So less resistance.

well not to mention for it to flow properly i would have to bore the flanges out an bore the gasket out as well, so ya i figured a smoother transition ftw an the bonus is no leaky gasket or bolts to fuss with

hmm or i wonder if shortening the secondaries to even shorter then ssac, like say 6" of 2" pipe then 6 or 8" of 2 1/8 or 2 1/4 or something..

im doing some reasearch an stuff but it seems like everyone has their own opinion

even so, the pairing is wrong anyways.

i would block off the egr valve if not needed
smooth out the nasty step where the header meets the downpipe
ceramic coat

easy and cheap

Like I tell many people. Sometimes projects like this end up costing a lot more than anticipated. Make sure you justify the cost of it. You may want to consider saving the money and having a nice header made.

I have seen people try to modify certain parts and at the end of it all they spent close to the amount it would cost just to have the part made.
