My Hiflow cat is rattling. I have both a new hiflow cat and a straight pipe. I read an article that straight pipe loses power on the dyno. But i dont remember if it was a straight pipe or a gutted cat that was tested.
Pic of my straight pipe. cat look a like ....OR Will this do just fine? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks for the guidance. I think if anything maybe minimal gain at the top but overall power loss through out with the straight pipe.

A bit off topic but since you posted a picture of your whole car,
from what car is that lip coming from? I got same side skirts you have but without a lip the car look empty in the front.

power will be in this order
straight pipe good high flow gutted straight pipe is the best for making power simple. A good high flow cat can out perform a gutted cat because most good high flows (like metal cat) have a far wack of r&d in baffle and flow design. Where as a gutted is crap because it will open up in the middle of the cat and then the air is forced back into a 3 inch ( or 2.5) pipe at bad angles making the air fight to get back into the pipe. you could always try both and decide |

Straight pipe will make most power always and forever.
High flow cat versus gutted cat is a crap shoot. If it's gutted well it will flow as well as a straight pipe. If it is gutted poorly it can flow worse than a high flow cat. The thing in your hand in the pics looks like a very well gutted cat.

i vote use the new high flow cat, and i'll tell you why
![]() 1st. your car will sound like ass when you hit the big lobes with a straight pipe. at least put another resonator in its place. 2nd. at your hp levels, highly doubtful the ass dyno can feel the minimal power loss of a good cat over the straight pipe. food for thought....my 12 yr old, 212k mile oem nissan cat, was flow benched to flow within ~15cu.ft./min. (or 5%) compared to a brand new 3"in/out highflow magnaflow universal cat. 3rd. earth day lasts all yr,..................................... for all of us. do what YOU think IS RIGHT. btw, nice "G" ![]()
