N1 cams question
I was reading the non dash forum because of the lack of information we currently have archived. So..are upgraded valve springs necessary for n1 cams if you only plan to have a rev of 8,000 rpm?

No need to do it, but I would just in case or a miss shift or so one. Still works fine as I have this guy reving to 8500 RPMs without spring upgrade.

8k is not a problem with stock s/r, and if hearing it from andeas and kojima isnt enough it was also verified by jwt

If JWT says it's fine, then why did Ben insist on giving a 7200 RPM redline my ECU (VE program), saying that I would need springs to go any higher?

Anyway, I decided I blew up too many motors and am playing it safe this time. I'll wait until I get my hands on a set of springs before going any higher, but I know I am being overly safe with a 7.2k redline.

so you can spend more money.

every chip change is $100

So now you get springs and do a chip change.

Figures... Heh, they got me I guess.

I'm on a budget for now (for various personal reasons), but I'm planning on doing springs at the same time as I'll get N1s while I'm at it for a future project, so I'll just have 1 chip change to pay off. It won't be until the end of this summer though. I had too much downtime last summer doing the swap, and my goal for this summer is to have as much seat time as possible.

You just convinced me into not buying springs form JWT, though

Buy Springs and retainers from Greg V, $365 and proven to rev to 9000 plus RPMs no problem

I will keep that in mind. Thanks for the advice.

To get back on topic... I would still go with springs while the cams are out, even with plans of an 8k limit. It will save you time and money in the long run.

May be I'm just lazy too, and dislike doing things twice.

I've never changed s&r's before and don't know someone competent to do it. I guess I can learn.
