The benefits of the RT is the fact that you have a single connection for Emulation and Datalogging. It allows for realtime tuning and logging which is definitely a plus.

The basic has the same capabilities if you use a dual ostrich emulator setup and a consult logging cable. It just isn't as convenient as a RT setup which only requires a single connection.

TunerCode offers a TON of logging parameters over the standard Consult protocol. Check out Dave's Website for the parameters that you can log.

So I would need two emulators to act like a RT??

Trying to understand exactly what the emulators do, I've done a little research on the subject but was wondering exactly how they work on our ecu's.

Can tunercode be used with the moates ostrich 2.0? It lists tunerpro so I figured yes...

I have a moates burner, do I need to just get rid of it and use the emulator instead or is the burner still used to burn the base tune for the chips?

You can use a Moates Ostrich with almost all of the tuning programs out there.

I have been using the dual ostrich setup with TunerCode and my NismoTronic program for a while now with absolutely 0 issues!

I would only use the Ostriches for tuning purposes, when you are finished up just burn the chip with your Burner and take the ostriches out until the next time you want to tune the car.

I understand now, the ostrich takes the place of the chip for tuning purposes and then when you figure the final tune out you can just burn chips and remove the ostrich. pretty sweet little deal.

Does the RT ecu not have any chips? Or does it only have one chip? Forgive me, I've never used or seen a RT ecu. Just curious why you only need one emulator for RT and two for basic.

Is anyone out there making RT ecu's anymore now that calum is gone?? I've got a b13 donor ready to go.

RT has no chips , it's in the daughter board.

Did a quick burn of some chips today and chucked them in, started all good, and i love the launch control activating the tacho. Cant wait to play with the rest of it. Pity my Ostrich's are still not working.

So basically, if understand this correctly, you are going to need a chipped ECU in order for this firmware to work with it? Since Calum is gone our only options are really used Basics/RT's or Nistune boards? Trying to see all of the hardware options available that will work well with this firmware, because it seems like this has some awesome capability.

Yes, well, these ECUs are 16bit and therefore require a daughter board to hold the programmable chips. (The 8bit ECUs only use 1 chip and can therefore be "chipped" by soldering a socket directly onto the ECU mother board.) In the case of an RT daughter board, it is programmable in real-time (RT), meaning the engine can be running while programming. The best option for basic boards, which require a chip programmer, is the Moates board, available through John at J-K-Tuning. The best option for RT at this time is to use 2 Ostriches with a basic daughter board. Again, John can help you with that too.

Cheers,

Got the ostriches sorted, new ribbon cables and they work fine again, not sure what happened, but meh.

I tried tuning a VE engine today, didnt get a chance to take it for a drive, but tired realtime etc.

I did have issues with getting the cams to switch. I used the AIV and EGR outputs, unticked the flags unders sensors in misc ( this is in Nismotronic by the way), and then set rpm as triggers and set to 2000rpm and rev'd in neutral, and no change in the outputs.

Any ideas?

I left speed, load, and temp at the stock values.

Darryl,

How are you determining that the outputs are or are not changing? The outputs are grounds so when the output is off, they are open circuits, and when on, they are grounded. A volt/ohm meter can't tell the difference.
