Check Crutchfield, I recall seeing a FM adapter that does not use a transmitter, it goes in line on your antenna in lead. If you don't have the 8-pin DIN connector of newer Nissan factory units that may be about your only option. If you have that, the Active Tuning option is a good one.
Instead of using a FM transmitter, the idea is to jack into the antenna lead as it goes into the stereo, drawback is it won't charge your iPod nor is the sound quality as good as CD changer adapters, etc. But it won't be worse than a FM station with a strong signal.
About the only other option is to do a stealth install of your car stereo and use a remote, i.e. put your deck out of sight, leave the factory unit in but not attached, run a deck under the dash and work its controls with a remote. Units designed for this are often used in classic car restorations, check around, but forewarned this option isn't usually cheap.
I'd call Crutchfield and explain your goal and see what they say. They also carry Active Tuning.
Good luck!
