5th gear popout on bumpy road?
After the front transmission mount broke and then the axle broke as well I fixed them both but now I have the stupid 5th gear pop out when ever I'm driving on a bumpyish road... Driving on the freeway in 5th is out of the question because I have to push as hard as I can to leave it in 5th gear when ever I give it ANY gas...

The front mount was completely gone so I replaced that today since it was all I could afford... Went to test drive it and it still is popping out on the bumpy road...

Went down my street which is pretty newer, aka no bumps and it didn't pop out at all... I checked all the other gears and their fine it's just the 5th gear that pops out...

I'm 95% sure it's not the ACTUAL 5th gear pop out because it was perfectly fine before all of this crap happened...

Exactly how many mounts are there? 4 right?

Anyone have a clue as to what I may be able to check? Could it possibly be because of low transmission fluid?

I'm not 100% sure what it was but I was driving down a road and @ about 35mph in 4th gear I can hear the slightest bit of whistle but I have to stick my head out and can barely barely hear it... Maybe that's just the CAI since it's right there =/

PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE Any help would be GREATLY appreciated... I hate to have a car with problems and don't want to make this sheezy get worse!

There are 4
And you have to replace them all at once. They all work as a whole.

the rear engine mount is very important, it prevents much of the forward-backward motion of the engine.

Yup,the rear mount being bad or sagging will cause that.
I bought an nx once that supposedly had popout.
It would only popout over bumps.
I noticed the shifter was sorta close to my ST front swaybar while doing an oil change. It also looked like there was a clean spot, like it was rubbing something.
The car was in 1st gear .Just on a curiosity whim,I put the car in 5th and looked under again...There it was rubbing the swaybar.
I look at the rear mount it looked good
I looked closer and this is what my Place Racing rear mount looked like...

Check out the rear mount
After I put a new prothane in the shifter had a ton of clearance and my popout was fixed.

I just did this job and it was quite easy.

You'll need a good jack and a flat piece of wood.

1. Jack up front of car and stick both sides on jackstands.
2. Jack up motor by about 1-2 inches with the jack & keep it there.
3. Loosen the front motor mount bolts, and the rear motor mount bolt.
4. Loosen all 4 crossmember bolts ( the long bar in the center of your engine bay ).

This is the point that the engine sags a little bit. If your left and right mounts ( transmission mount and passenger side engine mount ) are in good condition, it will barely sag at all.

5. remove the front and rear engine mount bolts completely.
6. remove the crossmember completely ( caution: it's heavy, so you'll need to support it on one side while you unbolt the other.. i used my foot, lol )
7. replace rear engine mount bolted to crossmember
8. installation is reverse
9. you're a man now, toby!!!

Yeah... That's what I was scared of having to do... Remove the crossmember... haha OH WELL I guess I'll just do that then haha sounds like fun =/

It's not that bad, dude. I had new OEM mounts on the left and right sides and i didn't notice my motor sag *at all*. Just support it by the oil pan and it'll be peachy

Lol yeah I'm just going to have to drive it up on some ramps since my bro is using the jack stands we have on his 240sx =/

Finally got paid and and changed the rear mount... Yeah, it was completly gone (split in half) but it didnt fix the problem... Now the shifter feels weird like it goes strait in to the gear like if its locked type of thing but actually goes in easy... When it pops out of 5th if i try to hold it in it'll pop out and catch then pop out and by then i just let off... I have no clue what the problem... it pops out of gear whenever i give it full throttle otherwise while i dont give it gas it stays in gear... I dont know what else to check... It has a new front mount and rear mount... could something maybe of have bent? I really dont like having these car problems and would like to just get it out of the way

thanks in advanced....

I bet your shifter linkage is messed up from driving the car with a busted rear mount for so long. That may be the place to look!

( i wish i could help. I haven't tackled refreshing my shifter linkage yet, so i got no idea what's going on under there. )

Have you replaced the front and side mounts too?
