They look fine, but I'll go out now and clean them off just in case

I'm going on record, the alternator is on it's way out.

Definitely get the alternator tested off the car. Much more through test that way. Testing it on the car is something I'd only do in a pinch until I could get it off and take it somewhere.

Okay. I bet you are right too. For kicks I called Nissan and asked if I could get some insight from a tech on the phone. They just told me to bring it in and apparently it costs $100.00 just for them to tell you what's wrong with it - ridiculous.

It's the voltage regulator inside the alternator going out. Replace the alternator and your problems will be solved.

Sucks that they cost so much, but it's an easy fix.

Yeah no major auto chain will test the alternator for free like Autozone will. Most are in the $75 - $100 diagnostic fee range. My guess is they will test it on the car like you did initially and the problem may or may not surface.

Well you can't expect any auto chain to take it off to test it. But if you bring it in, they'll do a full bench test on their machines for free, not just Autozone.

This. That's why when you rev it up,everything gets happy. The regulator is no longer regulating.Or at least intermittently working.

Just stopped in Autozone, they want $160 for a new alternator plus a $90 core charge
