odyssey battery
Im wanting to save space under my hood so thinking of getting a smaller battery. The options I have come up with are an odyssey pc680, lawn mower battery, and miata battery. I found a lawn mower that puts out more CCA than the odyssey but I know the odyssey is dry cell so it can handle the amperage from the car alternator. But what about the lawn mower battery would it be able to handle the amperage as well. Anyone running a lawn mower battery or have thoughts on it. For what Im gonna spend on the odyssey I might as well relocate it to the back and have all the space open.

You can get a kit to put it in the back off ebay for like 67 bucks.

Look around it's all been discussed several times. The battery I'm using is a Kinetik KR912, which is a little bigger than the small units, but it's quite strong as well. I've used several of the smaller ones, including the tiny Hawker unit, and had success with all of them.

Iv searched the forums and searched the net but there isnt much on the net about it. My buddy runs the odyssey 680 with no problems, thing is tiny but packs a punch. I think Im leaning toward just mounting it in the rear. I can get the wire local for 30 bucks. Would 4 gauge be enough or should I just go ahead and get the 2 gauge.

Some people will argue, but trust me, 4 gauge is all you need. I work at a shop and have done cars with HUGE systems, and GOOD 4 gauge wire is all we use.

If you want a cheaper battery, check out the Shuriken options. They're made by Metra, a good known car stereo part supplier. Alot of the guys on Honda tech have had good luck with them running their cars. I've only used them as add ons for systems though. I could actually sell you one lol.

I think the only time people have had problems with them, were after they let them sit for a long time, or somehow they got drained. When dry cell batteries are fully drained you really need a good trickle type charger to charge them.

To add to that, you can permanently damage an Odyssey by running it all the way down.

I got a trickle charger from Sears. At least once a week, I plug in my battery overnight. "Fully Charged" green light by morning.
