Any of you with ~250hp used both 22's and 24's?
I've been using 22" slicks for a while now. I bought a set of 24.5's last year that I plan to switch to when I go up to the 150 shot. I was wondering if any of you lower hp'd guys like me, had made the same switch before, and what the results were. Point being I'm wondering what it's going to do if I try the 24's the way it is with the 100 shot.

well that all depends on where your making peak whp and what mph your going to finish at.
assuming your running the stock trans i believe you will be somewhere around 7k at 120mph with the 23s. i almost would assume youd be better off with the 22s. but i guess theres only one way to find out.

at the beginning of last season i was making 259whp and 189ftlbs (im sure youll be making a hell of a lot more tq) and i ran 24.5 and 23s back to back at the track and i gained a few tenths and mph when going back to the 23s.

For what it's worth, I'm only running 1/8th mile. Best mph is 92, but typically 87-90mph. That's kind of what I had thought though. Do you think that adding the extra 50hp will help, or should I stick with 22's? 23's aren't really an option to me, since I get MT's at dealer cost, and they don't make that size.

At the same time, since you responed Cory, what affect would changing the fd in my trans have on this?

I ran 22X8X15 m/ts with my t25 setup, s4 cams, tubular manifold, open 3" downpipe, 12psi of boost. Pulled 1.7 60 ft's with them set at 10psi on b14 se-r wheels. Roughly 250-260whp

My trap speed was 110mph in the 1/4 and I was crossing at about 7500 in 4th gear. Perfect size slick for that power. Traction all the way down the track in every gear ran 12.4@110mph. 1/8th mile was a 7.87@88mph and I was at about 8k in 3rd gear.

I was using a stock trans as well. For you in the 1/8th mile a 23" slick would probably be perfect for you. That will get you to about 95-96mph in 3rd. You definitely dont want to have to shift to 4th just before the end.

We have to see where you make peak power to really say if the shorter fd would help.

Sweet. Twenty years from now when my car finally hits the dyno we'll know.

lol, Well man im gonna say pick the 24's over the 22's. I think the 22's will be too short for you unless your willing to rev out to 8500, lol. But if you dont have the springs and retainers to do so then i suggest not to. but on the nitrous with the BC stage 3's and s&r's you should very well make power to 8500 if its something you want to do. Shouldnt have a problem with it either.

I actually ran my 22" slicks with 460+whp and was having to shift to 5th right at the end, lol.

Well I have the springs and retainers, but typically TRY to shift before 8k. Usually right at it though.

The reason I originally got the 24's and planned to use them, was that I'm right at the end of 3rd gear when I cross the line now. I assume that adding 50hp would make me have to shift into 4th, and that adding the extra height in tire would preven that. Only problem is, will it stay in 3rd but run slower? I guess there is only one way to find out.
