Battle of hp & torque
OK lets say we had 2 identical b13's same specs the only difference is that 1 b13 has a Ve engine rated at 175hp 130tq. The other b13 has a de engine rated at 165 hp 140Tq. Who do you think would win that race?

What kind of race? Drag race? Road race? Race to the bottom of the ocean?

Did you have to make the numbers so close? What about 240 HP, 153 TQ versus 140 HP, 170 TQ? Does that work as an example instead?
Or how about 240 HP, 153 TQ versus 192 HP, 170 TQ?

I the situation mentioned above would be in a drag race. The numbers have to be close or it would not be any fun Most of the quarter mile calculators do not include Tq so this is another reason I ask. Do not be afraid to tell the truth because that's what I want to hear.

Give me pretend dyno graphs of both engines and gear ratios of the transmission, final drive ratio and driven tire height (assuming the same exact vehicle for both engines) and an answer can be worked out.

Other than the engines everything stock, stock tranny, stock tires. I could find the stock sr tranny ratios if you don't already have them.

Okay, we just need some dyno graphs (fake or real) and we're ready to boogy.

This question is not able to be answered with out dyno graphs Ben? I would try to make some but I don't have excel on my computer. I would have to draw them by hand which is gay. lol

I guess I could produce two dyno graphs if you want. One where the higher peak HP engine wins the race, and one where the lower peak HP engine wins the race.

Does that answer your initial question?

What ever is your style of answering the question I'm all ears, I love to hear different points of view.

Assuming all the same factors. Same car, same driver, same tranny, same conditions, same redline. The DE would probably win the 1/8th, the VE would probably win the 1/4, of course, the VE might be limited in power if it's bound to a lower redline.

Keep in mind, something that has a higher torque number probably has a broader and more usable powerband. Something with a lower torque number but high horsepower may not have as usable of a powerband.

Taking my 260hp/240tq VQ. I'm making almost full torque (200+ft-lbs) from 2200rpm till redline.
Taking my 165hp/130tq S5-SR. I was only making torque between 4500 and 7200RPM on a 8500RPM redline.
