Trying to autocross my nx???
OK, I have autocrossed before and did very well and finished 3rd in stx with a bolt-on se-r spec V with nismo struts and springs. I lost to a type R and a acura lengend( I know, but this guy was a hellva driver), but did beat a wrx, a nice civic, and a few other spec V's

Anyway I think my NX will be much better with the shorter wheelbase AGX's w/ gen. 1 roadmagnets and ST RSB. I also have a sr20ve fully bolted up and a sr16 tranny.

So my point is I think I have a very good set-up and just need to buy myself some 195/55 14 azenis and i should be ready.

The questions I have are what class will i be put in or should I go in, what are some of the cars I will be going against and last will I have to do to my nx to make it autocross ready?

thanks

Hey Jon,

You are going to have a LOT of fun with the NX! I believe, as long as the engine block is the same, you can run in either SMF, or straight SM (anyone please correct me if I am wrong). Being in those classes, you are going to want something a bit stickier than the azenis, perhaps Kumho V710s, or Hoosier A6s.

You could face some fairly heavy duty competition in straight SM class, the SMF class is new this year, and might be a good place to hang out (although if there aren't enough in the class at a given event, you may end up being bumped into SM anyway).

You are working with an old chassis (I'm sure you are aware of this), but you can prep it to a decent (certainly fun) standard. Take a peek here in the autoX/road racing section for my "best bang for the buck" setup I have on my NX, and that may give you some ideas.

Most of all, get yourself as much seat time as possible, and have fun!

Is a sr20ve considered the a stock engine block??? I mean it is a sr20 motor? If not what class?

And I will definitely read your set-up tips!

thanks

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but since you are VE ,you will be in street mod.
I have found this out recently with my car .It is fun as hell, but SM around here is all WRX,Evos.,boosted 240s,s2000,etc.
I am not afraid of that but they are gonna always be way faster.
I have plenty of fun just surprising all the rich boys with the old egg!!

Heres my autocross thread w/pics and video

how about if I take the neo vvl off my valve cover??? I mean I know its cheating, buts its really the only way to stay in a competitive class??? Nobody needs to know about the lousy extra 37hp???

I need some s/r's and some nasty cams and then I think I will be able to hang! And i am serious too. If I can make 200+whp and strip the egg down to nothing I think I can hang with thise big boy cars mentioned.....mabe I am being arrogant, but whatever.

I believe the B13 chassis really only has a shot in FSP anymore. ST is dominated by 89-91 Si's SM is dominated by anything AWD. Before this year the B13 was in DSP which was dominated by E36s.

I suppose STX might be another place to try the SE-R/NX in. You can run 8" wheels, wider tires, aftermarket LSD and other goodies, but you would still have to keep the DE w/ just I/H/E and an ECU.(i think)

These are all the main options for the B13s.

Well, Jon, you can take one of two attitudes:

1. Everyone cheats a little, and unless you are a regional and/or national contender, it won't really matter

2. Accept the class the mods put you in, and concentrate on driver development.

You need someone with experience with a VE block to weigh in on whether it is the same as the DE block; I can't help you there.

Myself, I have accepted where I am, and I am doing my chassis development for sheer enjoyment, and a vehicle for driver development. I have lots of time to drive "the car" for a given class.

This is a great outlook.
I dont think you will get away with removing the VVL badges. These people who run the events are car guys. They may not know about the Nissan VE,but they can sure tell when the cams lift. The announcers have commented on my car before, and people have come over to look under the hood after my runs.
I am not gonna cheat,it is so fun to just try to better my times and concentrate on driver improvement as you said.

I wish they would just divide the SM class up by FWD,RWD,and AWD.
That would make it more competetive for alot more cars.
Oh well,I will still enjoy flogging the car

Even if you could get away with the motor(which I dont think is really a big advantage anyway) the stock class doesnt really allow any other mods.I think you can lower it and put a drop in K&N only
no intake,no exhaust,no sways,no strut tower bars,etc,etc
Thats why they call it stock.

I don't plan to cheat and will accept what ever catagory they see me fit for i just want to know which one its going to be, because i have gone to about 10 of these and they never know where o place me and people ust ususally know already what class there in when they get there.

So run it by me again where I with my modifications will be? Also what tires are the best to mount on my nx rims???
