CEL code crank/cam sensor
A couple of days ago my CEL came on. I brought her down and hoked her up to a diagnostic comp. Code is c/cam sensor. Replaced crank sensor. Reset ECU and drove it a while. Next morning, CEL returned with same code.

Checked out distributor according to FSM. Followed all grounds, reseated them all. Reset ECU and drove a bit. . . CEL returned. So I parked her until I can resolve this.

Since the sensor for the cam is inside the distributor I know it is not replaceable unless I pop a new distributor in.

Anyone in SO FL. happen to have one for an 99 SE-L sr20de lying around they want to get rid of?

BTW motor internals are all stock. Some bolt on's only.

did you do any testing to verify it was actually the sensor that was bad and not the harness possibly?

Yeah, I checked it by swapping out with a friends dist., reset computer and ran it about two hours, running errands. No code. Gave him back his and when I put my dist back in the CEL light returned.

Love the line at the bottom of the chart...
IF NG, replace distributor assembly with camshaft position sensor.

Costly repair in today's economy, but well worth the money considering it is new not reconditioned and will probably last another 10-12yrs or 150k-ish miles.

Assuming this is a RR (I think it is?) I replaced mine as well once, and it HAS to be specific to tranny, as the parts are different. I got mine from gregV and he verified with my vin. The only way to go.

he is refering to the cam angle sensor , NOT , the crank angle sensor

I hit the junk yards all the time. Problem is they never have any 2.0's there. If they do the motor and tranny are gone along with ecu.

Lucky to find a part left in the engine bay.

She's around 150k now and I really should refresh the engine. Gaskets start going around this time, so I should do the head over, add in some 91-93 cams and change the timing chain too.

That should give me a few years without any more BS from the sensors and might even tighten up my throttle response times.
