What is this then?

A poorly designed ITB setup.

The point I was trying to get across was simply gti-r ITB's will not work on a NA setup. The reasons were listed above.

if a poorly designed ITB setup will net a 15whp GAIN, then what would a well designed one do?

What if the head was ported? There are a lot of variables here.

I dont think anyone could argue the fact that with a CNC'd head, C3 cams and valvetrain upgrade a set of ITB's would help. If anything the throttle response would be worth it for a cam profile of that sort.

Not only that.. I havent yet thrown out the fabrication option out here yet.. but hear me out.

Okay.. get the flow numbers from the 54C head that these ITBs were designed for.

Compare these flow numbers to the 53J highport head either stock or ported.

It IS possible to determine the adequate length of the compenents necessary ( benefits of having plenty of engineer friends).

With a little fab work, possibly buying a highport intake manifold flange as a base ( which I remember seeing in the past for sale).. a system could be made from factory components.

NOW.. I am not going to even begin to take a step in saying this would be the end all bullshit, as my only interest in this for N/A SR20DE applications. VE guys, Turbo guys, dont get your flamethrowers out. I agree with the research done on that side of the fence.

I am just sitting here with budget parts, what I have available, and grassroots engineering in my veins on this subject. We all know what can be done with the VE, and it is still surprising people. Also, I just like to piss people off and try to do something different.

This is another interesting DE with ITBĀ“s:

umm.. How did he go about transplanting the 54C head onto the DE block? Havent heard of that one before.

stock de uses 11mm head studs iirc and the 54c use half inchers so all youd have to do is drill the holes bigger and retape.

its been done before.

You guys continue to miss the point.

NO one here is saying ITB's will not out perform a plenum manifold. I am all for ITB's as I had a set custom made for one of my street builds.

That 15whp on the graph above was in the mid range, the overall graph stayed the same.

A properly designed ITB setup will gain 40-45whp over stock (in this case VE).

The 54c head swap is simple.

Enlarge the dowles on the block, use the gti-r dowles, use DE headbolts. Done.

Sure, you are right, i get it. But even 15whp in midrange is a lot for road race car with simple ITB setup.
