crap in cylinder head
I recently bought a sr20de from the salvage yard and I'm starting to tear it down and clean it. I took the valve cover off and it's black with baked on oil and other crap and under the valve cover is dirty too. What's the best way to clean this my self to avoid taking it to the shop for cleaning? I've heard oven cleaner works but looking forward to responces from people who have had this problem.

leave it. just clean it off any parts that move/have surfaces that touch/move.

if its an option for you to bring it back and get another id do that. nobody wants to play with a sludge monster. just pop the VC at the yard to make sure the motor is clean.

I went to dollar general today and bought some of that LA's totally awesome cleaner like the other guy had and it does work great. I have the cam caps soaking in it in a bucket right now. I gotta go and buy a new 10mm hex head socket to get the rest of the head bolts out so I can get the head cleaned. In the mean time I stripped the paint off the valve cover with aircraft remover and getting it prepped for painting. Thanks for the link NissanGuy
