DD with a few upgrades
Let me know what you think of this setup (for a b13 4 door):

Highport sr20
BC springs & retainers
Either Tomei poncam or S3's
Acl bearings in the bottom end
Thermoblock spacers
Probably an Ebay header

Anyone have experience with the Tomei cams? JWT C-series cams are out of the question, this will be a daily driver so I still need some low end.... But I could still use some power up top.

The poncam specs are: 11.50mm Lift 256* Duration
or 11.20mm lift 260* duration

Go with S4 cams. Had them in my daily withy no problems. Idle is fine, low end power is fine too. You will not regret.
I would add SR16VE pistons, if you doing bottom end too. Or just buy SR20VE for a daily... very cheap these days.

If you're going to the effort of replacing springs and retainers, then go bigger cams than poncams. I daily drive with C2s. You don't really lose any bottom end, you just don't gain anything.

I'll second the S4's. I have them as well, and no problems here. Once you hit about 4K it'll scream where stockers would only whisper.

Yeah if your gonna do springs retainers bearings etc... Just go with a VE you can get them for like $1000

But I already have the DE sitting in the garage. Im a bit uneducated on n/a sr20. I have a DET in one car and a ga16de in the other, so this is new territory for me.

I have to pass emissions & inspection, so it cant be too lopey at idle. I just don't want to be revving to 4000 to take off, especially when I'm stuck in traffic. With the GA now I can drive in 1st gear at 5 mph so thats low rpm, I need a cam that can still do that.

I say go the VE route. With the price of springs, retainers, and cams, you'll probably be looking somewhere in the 500$ range. Add in ACL bearings which is another 50$ and whatever thermoblock spacers cost. A friend of mine is selling his VE for 650. You can find them fairly cheap and for the money, you can't go wrong.

If you keep the DE, that would be a fun little setup. Another option would be the BC stage 2 cams. They are cheap and make a nice improvement over stock.

Ok, got it worked out but have another question.. How about daily driving with JWT S5's? If not it'll be S4.

i think you would have more cam than engine. i think those are for like big bore/stroked setups.
