Ok now. Those of you who are comparing DE to VE lets compare apples to apples. Look at the cost of the DE build compared to the VE. I realize it looks possible to build a DE to out-do a VE but who has done it??

I remember Andreas' big bore DE... WITH EVERYTHING didnt it make 200??

Clean JDM DE-500
JWT Cams-500
SR16 pistons-150
Springs and Retainers-350
VE oil pump-100
RR lifters-80
VE headgasket-100
New Headbolts-80
Port Work and Build charge-800
Computer-100
Total: 2760

Now you have to have knowledge to build this motor. Andreas what would you charge?? My guess 800-1000 this is including portwork. I will put it low and assume you are Andreas or a good builders 1st cousin.... Not just a machine shop.

Ve-$1200
RPM switch-100
Calum Basic-100
Maxima Maf-80
Total-1480

For a GUARANTEED 180whp.
I didnt not include the header and exhaust because you need it for both cars.
I mean is it really worth all the extra money to say "Hey I have a DE that makes 200whp"
Its not to me. That is why there is a VE in my car. And until the day when a DE passes me on the interstate and puts a couple cars on me... My Ve will be just fine.
Guys there is alot of things to consider when building a motor... Alot of hidden costs.
All of us are as skilled as Andreas and cant just rip a motor apart and know for sure its gonna run again.

Damn i forgot to add the intake manifold for the de. Damn 3k? for a DE build?? Andreas do you think it is a good value or just food for thought?

Who really cares??? I mean to be honest I am just trying to extract as much hp as i can out of a de without making it undriveable. Comparing prices mean squat. And besides you know a ve build will end up costing alot more then what you listed you forgot a real header, some n1 cams, and a few other goodies that will raise that price up ALOT. Like I said I just want a fast de that can run with most ve's!

BTW I plan on selling my bc3's for a nice set of c3's with a little cash ontop.... maybe even s4's striaght up though.

^Obviously you DID NOT read my post. I left the header out because you need it for both builds.
Also you are not gonna run with most VEs... You might run with one with a factory manifold and exhuast.
The funniest part is... You said price doesnt mean squat. That is kinda funny. Do you realize you posted that on a forum where a car with 12k invested is lucky to fetch 5k.

I have a VE. I have had a DE in just about every form. Yes I had one with a built bottom end, ported head the whole 9.
This is not something to argue about VE

I am just going off of miko's words and if the car car make 190whp is should be able to take out alot of ve plain and simple. most ve;s I see are only making 175-180whp on average.

And again I don't car! I just want a nice DD that can give a ve a run for its money thats all.

Damn.............

^Just build the car and see what happens. I'm just shooting for 170WHP on my setup. If I only get to 160-165 o well, it will still be a fun car for a daily. I got love for high compression DE's

Are you doing the pistons or just running plain old 9.5 pistons? If you run those 16ve pistons with cams then you should easily be able to hit your goal.

Goodluck and I will post up my dyno when I go get it done right after I buy the car. The only problem I see is that the bc3's that come with the car are probably going to need to be tuned and dialed in so I think I am going to try and trade them for some JWT c3's or c2's maybe??? I might even go with s4's

^I picked up a set of S4's and a set of S3's, but I will probably stick with the BC2's and cam gears on the daily after talking with a few forum members and I want to try something different. I have a UK 10.1 motor. I'll leave bottom end and head work stock. I'm just going to fully bolt and drive it. I have everything to have a fully bolted VE except for N1's and the Charles Dundon header. I'll be going that route later down the road, so I don't want to spend to much on the DE project.

^C3's aren't really that daily driver friendly, and C2's don't seem to be to far off from that. I'm making this statement of the specs of the cams. Everybody has different wants and needs, so I can't say this would be the case for you.
