I guess it depends on how you look at it, the brakes are different also (SE-R has bigger ones up front and discs in the rear as opposed to drums) and as far as I know, the SE doesn't even have a tachometer. What always made little sense to me was Nissan putting a relatively decent motor (the GA16DE) in a vehicle matched to a 5 speed transmission but not having tachometers in them. I could see the automatics without, but I remember my '93 Sentra XE 5-speed and in place of the tachometer was the fuel & temp gauges.
ANYWAYS.. the little SE is a good car and will run well assuming it's been taken care of.
