I have to second calvin269 advice.

It is completely necessary to either remove the intake manifold in the entirety or get down and dirty underneath and have fun working up with falling coolant.

You should perform a leakdown test with the valve cover off to better find where the loss of compression is. Use your ears to guide you. From the timing chain area, probably the piston rings. From ...
