quicker gear boxes dont all ways mean faster to the 1/4 mile.

a SR20VE with 205-220 WHP will run faster 1/4 mile times with a SR20DE gear box vs a SR16VE gear box. The reason why is the SR20DE gear box will be able to run the 1/4 mile at 104-107 MPH and do it all in 3 gears. The SR16VE gear box is forced to go to 4th gear which rake up time and travel about 12-15 MPH in 4th to get to the end of the 1/4 mile while be at the lowest part of the RPM band making the least amount fo power at the same time traveling a great distance while accelrating the least.

You beat me to it

i can do the 1/4 mile in 3rd in my car with the sr16ve box but i have a rev limit of 8500 and i use 195/50r15 tyres on my car so it tops out at 97mph in 3rd.

id prefer to be have closer gearing and keep my car more in the power band and be at the end of 4th rather then 3rd because 3rd gear is so long for my power output

Wouldn't the best method be to upgrade the transmission last after you have done all your power adders so you can match the trans to the powerband you get from a dyno chart?

well mathimatically speaking, it would be the same as a standard 04-06 spec-v gear box.

and most all (since this is the vvl subforum) the talk in this thread is about NA. Id assume that gearing would be best for turbo'd

and since im making more power than a stock specv, i dont see why it wouldnt be just fine, but i was asking for the opinion of a "subject matter expert."

I do find 1st too short, but haven't been game to get moving in 2nd gear, still running factory P12 clutch. (not much into drags so no 1/4 times from me)

HLSD = Love it on the street. Had a Nismo 1.5 in the car before, i like the HLSD more for everyday driving and the HLSD kicks ass in the wet compared to the Nismo LSD.
