super retard dizzy to get normal timing
so ya i had to super retard my gf's g20ve distributor today to get the timing to 15* almost all the way as far as it would go..

im pretty sure the pulleys fine because i can rev the car up an it goes right back to 15* an i can turn it off an put it back in timing mode via conzult an still 15* PLUS the car runs way better, engines quieter by far.. it was really noisy before an idled terribly.. if you shut the car off an turned it back on the idle would shoot up an down really bad an now it doesnt.. also conzult showed that it started up with the knock sensor goin off 6 times, i reset it an it didnt do it again after i lowerd the timing..

so why would i have to turn the distributor so far to get it to 15*? it must have been t 25-30*

thanks!

Weird stuff, I have seen my car do this same thing. I would have to retard my dizzy almost all the way towards the firewall to get the timing down.

Then a few days later, I will check it and it will be off. Whenever I used the Nissan Consult II unit to put the car into timing mode, that is the only thing that truly works. Good thing you had the Conzult at your disposal.

I use a stock ECU with a JWT program on it but they claim it has zero interference with the timing mode or anything else involving self-diagnostics.

My timing jumps real high after showing for a split second the correct mark and then advancing and the idle goes high. Everything is ok on my car though, I replaced the coolant temp. sensor, have a new thermostat (Nismo), and I know the car is getting up to temp. I disconnect the TPS, revs normal and shows me the right timing and then will shoot up to a much higher value and the idle raises proportionally.

I hope you figure it out, either way, I am subscribed.

I can count the crank pully out on mine. I recently changed cams and the pulley was perfectly matched up to TDC at 0* so I know my pulley is good.

What pulley is on your girls car?

Just so you guys know if you rotate the dizzy toward the fire wall you are advancing the timing.

You guys all have a spun crank pulley... The rubber has dry rotted and the two pieces have separated... Changing the pulley will set you back on the right paths

had the separated outer ring on the harmonic balancer happen to me on a sr20de and on a vg33de. This would have been what I suggested too. If you ruled it out though, goodluck on finding the true issue.
