Exactly! So why do we have the real-name policy. It doesn't add any benefits.

Real-name searches?!? Ben. There's more than one Ben Fenner. There's more than one person w/my name and probably everyone on this forum. Doing a search on someone's 'real-name' will not help and/or work very well. What would be better is having cross-referencing screen names from other forums if anything. If the seller can provide proof of other sells they have done than that would be a lot more useful. Trying to do research on someone's real name won't work very well(at all).

Is this you?
bebo.com - Profile from Ben Fenner

I'm not buying from someone who owns a CIVIC and lives in the UK! fail.

Oh wow! A Lawyer too!?!?!? First result:

Fredericks Peebles & Morgan LLP Attorneys - Ben Fenner

AND a dancer?!

Ben Fenner | Facebook

Wow Ben..you are a man of many trades...As a buyer I know now you like dancing, you are a lawyer in the USA that commutes to the UK and you drive a riced out Civic. Ya, that's going to help me buy something from you.

(rolls eyes for infinity)

We need to remove the real-name rule out of this. I'll accept all the other changes except this one. This is ridiculous. Stop trying to justify it because you know it doesn't make sense either.

What can I say gomba? I'm a better researcher than that.

"ben fenner columbia sc" in Google returns the first result as me. That's all I'm saying. Narrow it down to the city they claim to be in, and you're half way finished.

And yes, this is me:

(I can't believe you didn't find the piano playing recording artist Ben Fenner. He's really my only competition for search results. Lol at Civic owner. I have to meet that one. )

Added new automatic message to the bottom of the first post in all classifieds posts. It lays out some general rules for not being stupid before buying something.

Yah I like it for sure. (Maybe "Itrader" should be "iTrader"?)

I am a bit torn about posting my real name to everyone. If you buy something from me or if I buy something from you, you will get my real name via paypal payment. But what BenFenner said makes perfect sense, this lets you research the person before buying.

Now the classified are still visible from the outside, but it looks like the first post is hidden. So that does let you link to someone not on our forum. Though if someone quotes the first post, that might expose the name, etc.

Exactly, people are expecting this sense of security, and any sense of security you give them is a false one. So why bother with putting names on the for sale ad? at least make it private (which I see in later posts you did)

You know if that happened everyone would be back on the old forums..

I'm on the fence about the name thing...
I have yet to get ripped off on the forum. I have 11 iTrader rating on this forum and 19 on the old forum.. I guess I'm lucky, but I always get a good feel for a newer person before buying anything from them.. check their posts to see if they "know" anyone on the forum I trust - or even ask if they are on another forum with a good rating..

Has this idea been tossed around by the mods? It sounds reasonable and productive at first blush.

THAT^ (like i mentioned also in my posts)

The automated moderator note took over my entire post instead of being at the end of it...hate having to type something twice I can never make it sound as nice the second time
