Leave it to ShawnB...

I personally don't really get offended by cuss words. I think that when people use them in replace of words due to lack of vocabulary it shows ignorance, but you've proven that isn't the case in your posts. I simply want people to be able to browse the forum safely at work. I'd hate for some E-cop at work to retrace a thread that someone went to (on our forum) and them get in trouble for the content.

I think as long as you know you're going to be getting vulgar a simple NWS in the beginning suffices. As for the filter, I requested it for the same reason. I thought it would just filter out a single letter or two though. Perhaps there's some tweaks that can be done. You don't have to see the entire word to get the point IMHO.

I think of this place as a "virtual garage" type of joint. A bunch of (mostly) dudes talking about cars, women than can handle the atmosphere and are into cars (thee hottest women IMHO). Wandering around from lift to lift, inspecting cars, giving advice and troubleshooting. Then a bunch of pre-owned couches, beat-to-death lazy-boys, and some scarred up coffee tables over in one corner where fools are just yapping....ie...OT.

Yaaaaarrrrr, an educated pirate. A convict with a degree. A highly literate bouncer. A thug with a strong command of the English language.

That'd be me.

Agreed 100%.

I get myself in enough trouble, I surely don't want to get other folks in trouble.

I always try to be respectful when I know the subject matter is violent, crude, or requires cussing to effectively communicate the point.

At the same time, I realize that I am perhaps the most vulgarity-prone regular user of this site. I am certainly in the top-tier of potty-mouthed bastards on this forum, or most likely any other forum.

That would be perfectly acceptable to me. I understand the single letter "*" filters. However, to filter the entire word makes the reader guess as to the intended cuss-word.

Sh*tting.....vs.....****ting. Hell that second one could be "f*cking" for all the reader knows.

I am with you on a cussword filter for the reasons stated. However, perhaps you can tweak it to more moderate filter.

I have to agree though, a more moderate filter is needed. The current filter seems like a knee-jerk reaction to a small percentage of people who are offended by so-called cuss words that are pretty much a part of even the most educated of people's everyday vocabulary.

Like we have the video & photography sub-forums........
Have one for volatile topics, like how f-in scary Huckleberry banners are, we’ll call it ‘The Mosh Pit’.
Have one for those certain pictures that are a little risque, call it ‘Grounds For Termination’.

Done.

Brand loyalty..........whazzat?

That being said, it's time to go over the rules in case someone missed them previously. I'm sure everyone can agree that the way things were ran previously helped keep it a work safe atmosphere where us knuckle-heads could still get plenty of laughs and have a good time. So here goes:

  • No Embeded Porn, NWS tags are a must if you plan on linking any type of thing that can be considered remotely offensive. This doesn't mean things like 2G1C will be tolerated. We have many members who work in an environment where peers/supervisors can and will be looking at their screens at any given time. PLEASE keep that in mind. This doesn't just include nudity, things with excessive profanity printed or spoken is included as well
    *
  • No street racing stories or videos. Yes, we know (most) everyone has done it or been involved in it at some point, but we don't support it. We know it occurs we just don't want to be associated with it.
    *
  • No politics. I understand we are nearing an election year, but for now NO POLITICS
    *
  • No religious threads. I understand many people believe things that help them get through the day. That doesn't mean that it's going to help someone else make it through their day.
    *
  • No threatening, or overly abusive personal attacks. I know people bang heads from time to time, and that's fine. If it gets to be too much you will be asked to take it to PM. If that gets out of hand you will be dealt with.
    *
  • No racial slurs, or offensive terms. We have people on this forum from all ethnic backgrounds, religions, and sexual preferences. We just ask that you think before you type.
    *
  • No vulgarity/cuss words in titles of threads.
[/B][/SIZE]

Please keep in mind, this is a work in progress. If anyone has anything to add please feel free and if it's something I missed or should add I will do so. We will be the Off Topic we were before.

when will it be time so our statements be heard amongst the dash? this is, in fact, affecting 300+ million people. if you won't allow it, create a debate section...

LOL, I was about to start a semi-political thread, but decided to read this and saw it was on the list...

I missed this post a while back when this forum was launched. I have tried to support this site, and have stopped going to the other one unless I am rediculously bored. I think I have posted there 2-3 times in the last year hahaha.

Long live the DASH!
