Sorry, not my fault. See Windows 8... and boxed wine.

I may have misspoke. coil-on-plug (COP) weren't in most manufacturer's engineering toolboxes at the time, and certainly wouldn't have showed up in a Sentra or equivalent.

25) Technology wasn't there at the time. GM used coil-on-plug on their Quad4 starting in 1988. Ever had experience with an early Quad4? Pure crap.

Nissan was using COP on the RWD SR20DET in 1991, and the CA18DET had it before that in 1987.

Okay, then scratch what I said about COP. What the hell do I know anyway?

Options may sell cars, but they also add to the cost of every vehicle because of the assembly line complications and cost of tooling for multiple parts. Less or no options means the cars just get cranked out of the factory like girl scout cookies.

You keep complaining that I want Coil-On-Plug. What's the problem? The 1989 SR20DET had coil-on-plug. If they can have it in 1989 then we can have it in 1991.
Edit: I did not see what Mike said about the CA18DET before posting this.

A pre-cat is just a cat before another cat. I'd use two cats if I had to. One closer to the head for increased efficiency. No big deal. Nothing special. Nothing "new".

Designing for R134a refrigerant in 1991 means slightly different o-rings and mineral oil. A marginal cost even at the time, and something Nissan is known to do (try to beat regulations by putting in tech early, such as OBDII before it is required).

If I want the steering wheel to be around 10" from my chest (marginally acceptable with an air bag, and completely recommended distance without an air bag) then I need maybe 4" of telescoping. I'm 5' 7". I can't imagine what the taller guys have to put up with.

Time travel is not needed for the lowport head and intake manifold. The GTi-R had a similar head design, and the intake manifold is just a shape I prefer with the TB up high... Maybe all the flow wouldn't be there, but the geometry is more of what I'd be interested in anyway.

That is my defense to the changes you had major issues with, take it or leave it.

Speaking of the CA18DET... I'd probably have designed the SR engine with cam-on-bucket design if I had the chance.

Two things still are the COP ignition and pre-cat. The SR20 had a fantastic ignition system for a NA engine, so sans turbo I don't see the benefit outweighing the cost. Pre-cat: See B15 2.5L pre-cat failures.

Well at any rate, it's your design. You can take it, I'll leave it. All I want is variable intermittent wipers (which I do:smile, a fade-out dome light(working on that) and a glove box that actually holds something bigger than a pair of gloves.

I don't see the similarities. Indulge me in how they are similar. I would say that a lowport DE and a VE are more similar than a lowport DE compared to a GTi-R head on intake side. Huge difference in the port entry angles.

Ooo, how about a DET AWD version based on the Y10 truck chasis, ala GMC Syclone? No, I'm serious.
