Free smartphone app you need to download RIGHT NOW (traffic, speed trap alerts, etc)
WAZE.

It's totally free and great. It allows everyone who is using and driving to mark exactly where they came across any kind of road hazards, accidents, potholes, traffic, roadkill, construction areas, disabled vehicles, and most importantly, where police and speed traps are located.

https://www.waze.com/

I just downloaded it last night and used it all day today. You can plug your phone into the AUX port of your stereo (if you have one) and it will say out loud any upcoming things other WAZE users have marked automatically. I can't believe this thing is free, it's the best driving app. I came across an accident today and marked it at the spot (it only takes like 2 taps to do so), and within about 10 minutes I had other people clicking "thumbs up" on it which means they also came across it and validated it. I also avoided a nasty pothole because another WAZE user had marked it.

Also, you see any other WAZE users who are on the roads near you who are using the program in the form of the WAZE icon. Just go to the App store or whatever on your smart phone and grab it and contribute where you see things.

It also has a hands-free option which is great if you're driving alone.

Edit: I know this has been out a couple years. Just heard of it today though.

Always nice to see people slowing to 5mph past accidents to update their apps...

That is truth. This is the reality about this app. I thought it was great when I first saw the app and began to use it. Then I realized the sad truth in this double-bladed sword of a program I drive in traffic five days a week and this app only slows people down. I have the app still installed on my phone and I will bring it up when I am sitting still in traffic to see when the misery will end. Either I am seeing an influx of traffic or ways to distract folks from driving.....

Just an fyi, for traffic problems, my androids' stock map app (normal google maps) shows accident/back-up reports from WAZE users and will reroute based on them.

I just check the traffic before I leave and choose the best route. As far as people slowing down to update their app, I've noticed zero difference befor and after the conception of social traffic updates. People slow down just to look, has happened since the very first car crash and will never stop because people are sadistic assholes who take pleasure in others misery.

Having to actually slow down just to interface with an application means it either needs an easier ui or voice recognition.
