Tachometer wire testing
I think I may have a defective RPM switch...is there any way to test the tach wire to make sure it has signal? I tapped the wire going to the tach from the ecu on my b13(blue/black stripe) and its not working...the tach is working but not the rpm window switch.
I was hoping theres a way to actually verify the signal somehow

Does the switch have any sort of rpm display? What kind of switch is this?

no at the moment it doesnt show the rpm...its supposed to .Its a digital readout but when theres no tach signal it stays in program mode....which is whats happenning.
its an ebay switch intellitronics/jegs type.
I used the same on my last 2 VE swaps with no issues, but have heard others had problems.
Thats why I want to test it somehow, because it has a lifetime warranty....problem is I need it working soon so I can get to the dyno.
If it is defective it may be faster to order another one then send this one back instead of waiting for repair/replacement

Are you using one for switching the both cams, or are you using two for independent cams switching?

for now one switch for both cams.I plan to upgrade to Nismotronic SA eventually so maybe I will experiment with individual cam switching then...but for now its a basic chipped ecu.
Trying to keep it simple for now and do this in stages as time and money permits

Ok, ive used the summit version of this. Can you verify the wiring is correct?

Pulling the tach signal is easier if the window switch is in the engine bay as the coil is right there.

Yes thats it,same thing
I like it in the cabin though out of the elements and I can see and set it from the drivers seat i put it under the tray below the ashtray. Then you can slide that tray out to set or monitor it. That switch doesnt look really up to the task of surviving the elements and underhood temps, etc. to me.

Anyway.I am connected as per the instructions and it powers up but is stuck in program mode because of no tach signal.
I am tapped into the blu/black wire that goes to the tach .Its conveniently located and has a plug behind the dash center bezel area.
This is the same exact switch and installation as i did on my VE nx...never had a problem as long as I owned it.
I contacted the seller and they are sending me another one one out tomorrow,no questions asked

That's awesome of the seller. If you have a multimeter, you can check the tach signal using the frequency setting.

I didn't have much luck with these jay when I had my red p11.

makes me think the seller knows they are hit and miss

Like I said I had good luck Maybe I will get an MSD too for backup..haha
Its a shame because its a great design..its easy to change the settings and has led color cahnges to show its working....I guess the execution wasnt as good as the design
