Shift Light
Hey everybody, here's a shift light I made for my 92 Sentra. It calculates engine RPM based on frequency of the tach signal. The shift point is programmable by holding the RPM at the desired point and pressing a button. Excuse the crappy video quality.

What do you think? Would anyone be interested in a kit?

Thats pretty neat. What light turns on? I saw the little Tach hand light up but what happens if you're driving at night and you have your lights on?

The needle strobes as well as two blank indicator lights in the gauge cluster. It's hard to see in the video, but the gauge lights are on. It isn't too visible in the day, so I guess I've still got some work to do.

Very creative. Use some bright LED's so you can see it during the day...

Indeed. Same here if it works on a B14. I saw that this was on a B13

Well alright then!

So basically it needs to be brighter. I think I can get the needle a bit brighter, but because the needle pipes the LED light up into it, I don't think it will ever be very visible in the day. Most shenanigans happen at night anyways.

I can do a brighter shift light elsewhere in addition to the needle. On my B13 there is an empty bulb socket below the cruise control and turn signal lights. I'll set something up there and post another video, hopefully by tonight.

I don't know if it will work for the B14 - I only have a B13, so this is what I designed it for. Does anyone know if a B13 tach will run in a B14? If it does, and is accurate, then this will work in the B14. Otherwise I'd need to borrow someones B14 to probe the tach signal and see what it looks like.

Any other suggestions, anything in particular you'd like to see? Maybe an option to have the needle always red, then strobe at the set redline? Maybe a standalone (removable?) shift light outside the cluster, on the dash or something?

All you need is a brighter more noticable indicator and you'll have yourself a sellable product.

Agreed.

Here's what I have in my ride Sequential shift light. See how bright it is! The first four lights are green, then two yellows, then a red.

Someone showed me this a few days ago, very cool! You can program each light too, right?

I've got a plan for something cooler (better!?) in the future
