I need a paint job
Clearcoat is shot, no rust....just wish I could afford a good paint job. I want to kick-start my love for this car but it's just gotta look good.

I feel yah man, I've got some things that could use some work but the cost to do it right is just not in the cards right now.
Even if I could do it myself, the time involved would be killer.

Maybe make some moves and things will open up for you in the future.

I need one badly also. My clear coat took a giant dump the past few years, no rust also. I may prep the car myself and take it in for the "uh-oh, better call Maaco" special..... not many options.

I'd strongly recommend against Maaco. I'm sure they've made some progress since 1988, but as I young man I had Maaco "color" my first car. Yeah, it was only a couple hundred bucks, but it was complete shit. It looked like they had the neighborhood kids tape it off, overspray everywhere and from the second story of a construction site we were on I could see very defined lines on the hood where the spray gun went back and forth. Then, within months it started flaking off here and there. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have spent that money on weed and rubbers.

Same here. Needs some rust on the rockers fixed and a full paint. I’m even down to the primer in some spots. Unfortunately, the value of these cars make a quality paint job (>$1000) hard to justify. Even then, if you’re going to do that, it often makes sense to replace the seals around the glass when you do it. The cost could easily exceed the value of the car, even if it’s in very good shape.
