Ran into trouble while replacing my valve cover gasket.
I have an 01 sentra SE. I bought an apex gasket # AVC547S. It wouldn't sit flush. When I pushed in one corner the other popped out. How do I get it to stay put? In the end I reused the old gasket. It was still in good shape and no tears, but oil was coming out around the gasket before the change.

Also while changing my gasket, I found oil in the spark plug that has the longest wire. I cleaned all the oil out of the hole. I'll turn it over tomorrow when the rtv cures.

Any advice?

Buy a new OEM gasket, seal that per FSM spec.

or

Use more RTV to seal the whole thing. if not cracked or brittle and still flexible you can re-use that and simply seal all around. I have done this method before when I popped open the cover only to have it leak after putting the cover back on.

Oil in the spark plug means the spark plug gasket is leaking. Did the new apex gasket # AVC547S come with spark plug gaskets? (it should have)

If you use "The Right Stuff" you only have to wait a few minutes.

Yeah, it came with new spark gaskets. I used ultra grey. Do I squeeze some out and then wait a few minutes for it to dry, and then put the gaskets on?

Sigh* I got my part from rockauto. I know sometimes they list wrong part fitments.
